Yes, particularly as they became friends quite late in life. To me, that's reason to be hopeful that you can form amazing friendships at any stage.

OK, they may have met when they were somewhat younger than I thought - but still, it's not like they met in college.

I didn't know they were especially close friends, but these twitter updates make me sad about having no way of getting to see them in Waiting for Godot :(

(Anonymous) 2013-10-24 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
they make me sad cuz i know one day I will wake up to the headline that one of them has died.

Just like anybody else, dummy. Youth doesn't grant you immortality.

Yeah, I know Ian's referred to Patrick Stewart as his "Other half" [in an obviously non-romantic sorta jokey sense] during an interview before

Jokey way or not, I now have a new ship.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-25 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think they are that close, but they are colleagues who get on really well. The wedding thing I doubt would have happened if they were both at home in Britain and not touring the US. PS has his family in Yorkshire and IM has his partner and friends in London.

Waiting for Godot is brilliant, it's such a great play and they are both really suited to it.

My best friend and I are totally going to be two spinsters that live together. Hopefully we will be as cool as those two.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-24 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
You could have many great friendships in your future. Do you know the future? No! Go there and find out!! :) Also, work on making great friends?? :D

(Anonymous) 2013-10-24 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, anon.

It took me twenty years of my life to find my best friend, and I didn't even know it at the time. It took another seven for me to realize it. And then, we found a third a few years later.

I just hope our health holds out enough for us to be as playful as these two when we reach those ages, considering what we've been going through these past few years.

Well

Not with that attitude you won't!

How old were they when they met?

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2013-10-25 12:05 am (UTC)(link)

36/37 and 37/38, as far as I can tell.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-25 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
They first worked together in 1977 on "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour". Of course, they may have met before then.

Hey, thanks! I was on a phone and having a little difficulty but I was pretty sure they weren't boyhood friends.

Anyway this brings me back to my point - My grandfather met his platonic soulmate (and pretty much first friend) at the ripe old age of 56. So you never know OP!

A friendship that complete strangers will project their own issues on? Seriously, a couple of cute soundbytes really don't give you enough to know what their friendship is or isn't.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-25 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Way to tell someone off for having the nerve to want a meaningful friendship. I hate it when people do that!

I want to be a part of a trio with them. Just besties. I want to drink beer with them and go see plays. I need this </3

(Anonymous) 2013-10-25 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they get on well enough, and I've seen the plays, they are good together. Although IMO, I've seen both a lot on stage and I think Stewart is a better actor. I've never seen him give anything but a great performance, and I've seen IM give some that are OK but not amazing.

I am one degree of separation from both, I know people who know them, and have met them both through friends but definitely wouldn't say I know them, anyhow my point is that both have their own social circles, they are friends but not BFFs, as far as I know.

So I don't think you need to feel like they have a special friendship that you can't have.
