Popular phrases/trends that annoy you

(Anonymous) 2013-10-25 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Personally, I'm getting super sick of "what the actual fuck?"

I also think people are far to quick to tell other people to fuck off, but that doesn't make me seethe quite as much "what the actual fuck?" which just sounds...like whoever's saying it is high on themselves, or something? Like they're too good/smart/whatever for such a plebian phrase as WTF. Does that make sense?

"Problematic" makes me grind my teeth.

And shopping flower crowns onto people. But that ones seems to be falling out of style.

UAGH YES PROBLEMATIC

That word is getting so annoying. Also 'gross' is somewhat the the same way. because of SJWs.

I never got that vibe from it. It's just something that one person said (I'm guessing it was in the context of something weird that had to do with real sex, ie, actually fucking that made them have a wtf reaction) that caught on, like most things.

Hmm. I always hear it as a superlative to WTF. Like, there's "What the fuck?" and then "What the actual fuck?!"

That's how I use it! I use WTF a lot too though. And lots of fucks in general, really.

Most meme phrases get on my nerves because they quickly get to the point that they're not really funny anymore and don't promote discussion.

And phrases and insults that shut down arguments without actually counteracting the person's original point.

Troll, especially, because it's usually used as "someone who I don't agree with" instead of "someone saying things to get a rile out of other people."

When people say "she is so pressed" and "lol white girls" (I've noticed those two often go together).

"At the end of the day..."

This is mostly from knowing someone who would insert this into every sentence he spoke, I don't dislike it as much now since I don't talk to the guy anymore but it used to aggravate me so much.

"/micdrop," "BOOM," "This is so important," "This is really powerful"

Those things that mean you're expected to be awed by the brilliance and poignancy or wit of the preceding statement (and usually said statement isn't really anything that special).

YES, definitely!

Haha, oops. Yea, I use that one sometimes. Never did before I heard a friend use it, then I found myself saying it as well. I try to limit my usage of it.

Hmmm, maybe "life-changing" because it's used so often for everything it's really lost meaning for me. I suppose it just makes me sad though, not annoyed.

My brain automatically filled in "...field trip with Zuko" onto the end of that word.

Today I heard about a girl I know who's pregnant finding out the "gender" of her baby. I know several women who are pregnant so I've heard that a lot lately and every time I've wanted to say "no, you're finding out the SEX of the baby".

I know they mean nothing by it and they don't know the difference between the two words but it still bugs me a little and I feel horribly SJW-ish every time I think that.

"Shots fired"

It's usually used after a 'take down' of some offensive post, but I'm not even sure what it's supposed to mean? like, shots fired is usually some newspaper headline about a school shooting or terrorist so like are these people implying the 'smart' comment is a terrorist or something?

Re: Popular phrases/trends that annoy you

(Anonymous) 2013-10-26 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
I thought it was supposed to mean like "shots have been fired, this is war" and that they're going to retaliate/argue back or something?

Re: Popular phrases/trends that annoy you

(Anonymous) 2013-10-26 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
nah, it's not that they're a terrorist. it's that the post they've written is so effective that (1) it's (metaphorically) like they've fired a gun at the person and (2) it's so inflammatory that a confrontation is certain to begin.
