Re: bah, i'm so stressed
(Anonymous) 2013-10-30 12:19 am (UTC)(link)If you're transported by an ambulance you have to pay for the ride, same as any other transportation service, and for the medical care you get from the paramedic and/or emt, same as any other health service.
Also, I know you said in another comment you didn't feel you needed an ambulance, so why didn't you refuse it? Just because an ambulance is called doesn't mean you have to take it, if you sign a waiver saying you're refusing service taking any blame from them if something happens to you, you can just walk away. They can't make you get in. (at least in the USA)
If you refused and they didn't offer any paperwork for you to sign waiving their responsibility so you could go, I'd try looking up your local/state/country policies on that and try challenging the $400 charge.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-30 12:22 am (UTC)(link)which, you know, would make a lot of sense, but that's another argument i guess
Re: bah, i'm so stressed
(Anonymous) 2013-10-30 12:34 am (UTC)(link)I know, they really should be state-run as an essential service and given more money for staff and ambulances and split into manageable areas. In my local area we don't have nearly enough ambulances or paramedics, and they're covering an area so wide some calls take them up to 45 minutes to reach after they're dispatched.
I kinda wish people wouldn't assume those things about this sort of thing, then they get horribly caught off guard like OP. Like that thing about all doctors having to help people if they're near an accident - they only have to do that if they announce themselves.
