Characters you like, but....

(Anonymous) 2013-11-05 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Do you mostly like characters that you would be friends with in real life, or characters you would hate in real life?

I think it's a pretty even mix for me. I tend to like funny and/or complex characters, and a lot of time characters are funny to me when they get under each other's skins...so they'd probably get to me too in real life. But I also like some characters because the remind me of real friends I know.

Actually if I think about it it's an even split. I just feel like I like more I would hate in real life because my no.1 fave in each fandom is usually the one I would least like in real life. Like Rodney in SGA, Nate in Leverage, Tony in NCIS....

People I'd hate in real life. People I wouldn't have anything to do with in real life because being friends or even acquaintances with them would likely get me in to some kind of residual trouble.

I mostly like characters I'd want to be friends with IRL. I like the concept of a good villain, but my favorite characters are generally nice, good people.

That said, my general OTP is Mulder/Scully and they're two of my favorite characters, and I have a feeling Mulder would get on my nerves on a fairly regular basis.

But yeah, generally I like characters I'd be friends with.

99.9% of the time i like characters who i would be friends with. or at least admire. i can't understand loving a character that if i met in real life i'd either want to stab them or run far away.

I'd like to be friends with most of them. Some of them would be too dangerous to be around and there are a couple who might get on my nerves.

There are a few that I think I would like to know or be friends with irl, but the vast majority I would want to punch in the face.

About half the characters I like are people I'd like in real life. The other half I like because I relate to them, and those are the ones I wouldn't like in real life because I would never get along with myself.

When it comes to favorite women characters, yes there are quite a few I think I could be friends with.

With men, fictional characters I love are people I would be terrified of if I ever met them IRL.

Mostly ones I could be friends with...but there's some I adore who I would like, but be unable to be friends with because they would fucking exhaust me. I'm very much an introvert, so the genki girls I love so much in fiction would make me want to run away in about 5 minutes.

I love Leslie Knope on Parks and Rec, but I actually think IRL she'd be overbearing, both as a friend and a colleague. I know Leslies IRL and... they tend to be minimal dosage.

Same with Hermione Granger in the HP series.

I seem to really like a whole lot of characters who are obnoxious and/or alcoholics, whereas in real life I mostly like to be left alone and can't stand being around drunk people.

Actually I'm severely introverted and there are less than a half-dozen people I can stand to be around in RL for more than a couple hours at a time, so I guess the answer is pretty obvious. ;)

I really only like characters I feel like I'd get along with. Not necessarily characters that are nice, or good people, or anything like that. I like a lot of twisted villain characters, but they all have traits that lead me to believe we'd get along okay.

There are a lot of characters that I think are awesome characters, but I don't really "like" them and a lot of the time it has to do with the fact that I think they wouldn't like me.

I mostly like characters that I'd be friends with IRL. Actually, I mostly like characters that are similar to myself. There are a few that I wouldn't be friends with IRL because I couldn't condone their behaviour (hell-ooo, serial killers), but I'd probably still appreciate their personalities.

I really don't get the whole "love to hate" a character deal. I generally just hate characters like that. I could never watch Seinfeld, for example. I also don't get liking characters where people are all "They're just like me/you/everybody, except they make stupid mistakes or get in over their heads and don't know how to get out" or whatever. No. Characters (and real people) act like that because they are different from people who don't let that shit happen to them. Hence my loathing of the show Girls. And the Bridget Jones movies.

It's a pretty even split for me. I love Elizabeth Weir, and I think she and I could be RL friends, but I know Rodney would get on my every last nerve even though I love his character. Or in another example, Jayne Cobb is a fantastic character, but I would not want to spend any time with him in RL.

Neither, characters are not real life. They live in fictional universes, have fictional personalities, and fictional conflicts. I like them if they're well written. How I'd feel if they were magically made manifest beside me is utterly irrelevant.

I'm quite partial to MCU Tony Stark, but I know for a fact that a) I would want to punch him within about ten minutes and b) he'd find me incredibly boring, probably while laughing about the fact I have an English degree.

I'm usually drawn towards problematic characters, especially if fandom added nuances to their background story/personality/raison d'être, etc. I mean, I like Adrian Veidt, Draco Malfoy, Jackson Whitmore, Erik Lenhserr, I sure as hell don't want to be friends with any of them.

The exception is the characters in Pacific Rim. There, I wanna be BFF with *everybody* (maybe not Chuck, though).
