Well, it'd help if we knew what the 'good' versions were.

Likely the American iteration of the G1 cartoon, since IDW is a G1verse, this is English language not Japanese, and if it were the Marvel, Dreamwave, or fan club comics, they'd almost certainly already be quite clear on the 'different universes are different' thing and know 'this isn't the iteration I like' doesn't mean 'this is a misinterpretation'. (Though there is a vague possibility they read one of the comics without ever seeing the cartoon, or reading any of the other comics before IDW, that strikes me as 4 million kinds of unlikely.)

I...kinda meant it to be a rhetorical statement, it's pretty obvious this is a Geewunner (or a troll emulating one). Sorry my intent didn't show, my humor attempts haven't been working out well in general today.

Ah, well, cool, sorry. Text makes sarcasm hard to spot sometimes.

I actually half-suspect I know who this is - I'm sure the guy I'm thinking of isn't the only one who thinks this way about the topic, but...yeah...

I wouldn't know either way about this discussion, I've never read any of the comics. Except Reign of Starscream but I don't think that counts.

I wouldn't blame you for not liking something because opinions. But hoping that people lose jobs because you don't like their story is kinda ick , to be honest.

I don't mind most of them except what the hell is going on with Prowl, and Bee got a bit weird for a while.

I think you mean the best versions since TFA, brosis.

Am I the only one having a hard time reading this?

(Anonymous) 2013-11-06 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
No, I had a really hard time reading it.

No, the font and background were both chosen horribly.

Not liking it is fair enough - it's got a lot of morally grey stuff all over the board and as some friends of mine have put it, "it feels like everyone's a jerk".

Wishing unemployment on its makers and shitting on it because you don't like it though, that's not cool, especially in a fandom that has so many incarnations that there's just about something for everyone by this point.

Seriously, I don't get people who get all bent out of shape over new incarnations of characters in this fandom. It's been going on for 30 years by this point, it's not gonna stop soon, and by the nature of new incarnations in new universes, there's gonna be differences. Not liking an incarnation, fine, that is your opinion and you're entitled to it, but wigging out as if the artist personally kicked your puppy? Come on.
kryptoncat: G1 cartoon Megatron is scowling at a blue phone-like device. Text: "Starscream! What is the meaning of A/S/L?" (IT MEANS ALLOW STARSCREAM LEADERSHIP! HA)

[personal profile] kryptoncat 2013-11-06 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
I find a surprisingly decent amount of G1 stuff when I'm purposefully looking for MTMTE stuff. Hmmm.

Well yes, it does seem trollish of you to hope for the company to go out of business, when you could settle for, say, hoping a different writer takes over, or simply wishing that the fandom will lose interest in it and focus on something you like more.

But tell me more about why you dislike IDW's interpretations so much. Who do you think they are messing up, and in what ways? I'm always interested in people who complain that new continuities misinterpret G1 characters, because there is just so little there to misinterpret. /chinhands
