(Anonymous) 2013-11-07 02:59 am (UTC)(link)However, I *think* the bill that the person was referring to was actually the bill passed (AB-1266) which allows transgender students to use school facilities and participate in activities on the basis of their gender identity, and prevents discrimination against trans students. With the line being taken by its opponents that it forces schools to allow students of different genders to use the same bathrooms, or something like that.
Again, I can't be sure, but I'm like 90% confident that's what's going on here. And so the petition is not really in favor of or against unisex bathrooms.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-07 03:41 am (UTC)(link)If so, I have to ask, given the nature of boys in general, school boys being particularly cruel, do you honestly not expect the number of rapes and sexual assaults in schools to skyrocket if unisex bathrooms were allowed?

(Anonymous) 2013-11-07 03:50 am (UTC)(link)b) the actual law is about allowing transgender students to use bathrooms in line with their gender identity, so that's not even the issue at hand here

No? But that might be from my thinking men aren't all inherently evil and I'm also not paranoid.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-07 06:28 am (UTC)(link)Are men inherently evil? Of course not. But are teenagers of both sexes pretty evil-inclined for awhile during their development, with boys in particular tending to be so in more physical ways than girls? Yes. Otherwise high school wouldn't drive so many to bullying-related suicide, which only escalates because adults wave it all off by saying things like "don't be paranoid, they're just kids".
That said, I agree that unisex bathrooms probably wouldn't turn into areas of concentrated teenage evil.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-07 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)Of course, making all school bathrooms unisex is not even remotely what the bill does, and it seems like the guy collecting signatures was deliberately misrepresenting it.

And yes he was.
