Kinda related, but a friend found out I was an atheist recently and dropped all contact with me. Deleted from facebook, the works. I was utterly baffled and had to find out from another friend why they suddenly went all no-contact on me.

I'm quite :( about it since I thought they knew, but...I'm not going to try to revive a friendship if the simple fact of realising I don't believe = complete drop of friendship.

Even if I miss them a bit

Your ex-friend is a shithead. I'm sorry that happened to you, but you're better off without them.

Now let's sit back and read another fifty comments about what ~assholes~ atheists are. *eyeroll*

ah I'm not reading the rest of the thread. I skimmed the first few comments but I don't feel up to arguing my nonbelief case or anything right now. So I'm going to not read, especially the longer threads.

That's horrible. To just leave without even saying why . . . It might almost be worth confronting them. What they say will undoubtedly hurt, but it may give a little closure. (Or just get any subconscious blame off your shoulders by putting the blame squarely on them.)

Can't deny it's not hurtful and I was really upset and confused at the time as I do try to not be all "No religions" or anything. But I guess the fact I marked "yes" to an atheist group event (on FB) was both enlightenment and a big no for her.
(It was just a fundraiser too)

Now I'm just really :( 'cause I don't see why we can't continue to be casual friends since we've never had religion brought up before and I've got plenty of religious friends/family I get along fine with. On the other hand, I'm not sure I want to try to clear the air with her if that was her first reaction? There wasn't any "oh you don't believe, what do you think of..." questions. Just, bam! No longer friends on FB, no longer on MSN and well I haven't tried her number yet.
