WTF...how the hell is the misogynistic? This person is critiquing the actions of one woman /girl to another. There's no generalizing about their gender and the OP of this secret isn't saying anything derogatory about all women.

I swear....it's like you saw a female character, noticed a criticizing sentiment and called "misogyny" in a lazy attempt to discredit an opinion you didn't like.

I haven't watched Daria in years and I never watched it THAT much, but I think a lot of it stems from the fact that it's a relationship between two female characters that isn't just "let's talk about the male characters." Not that there's anything wrong with that, but female friendship can be kind of rare to see in media.

This was my thinking, too. It wasn't that it was an omg great friendship, just that the friendship existed and got a lot of focus independent of other things. Same with Daria's relationships with her sister and mother, which lord knows weren't positive.

I've never noticed this in their relationship... the vast majority of the time they spend together, they are just snarking on the world as a team. They do have challenges in their friendship and moments where they don't understand one another, but that happens to everyone - especially in the teen years where identity is still being formed and relationships have a new level of complexity. Honestly, I thought their friendship was one of the strongest parts of the show. Certainly the most significant positive relationship in Daria's life. Though this secret WILL give me an excuse to rewatch my DVDs :)

Like, sometimes one or the other acts like a shit, because the show is primarily about exploring what it feels like to be both teen and outcast, and that's part of growing. But Jane doesn't just take it lying down, and it's not like a defining feature of their interactions/friendship overall? Idk.

This, I'm pretty sure whenever Daria did act like an ass, Jane called her out, and after both of them had their fight and reflected they made up.
