not to mention the only purpose she had in the movie was for comic relief. all the human characters besides jane were only there for comic relief. not that it helped jane any. they were all boring and pointless.

(i swear if they bring up the BUT THOR UR IMMORTAL AND JANES A HUMAN point in the next movie after they wouldn't let it drop in this one i'm going to be so irritated)

I had absolutely no idea that Darcy was so popular until recently. I thought she was just this background character that was borderline annoying in Thor, but then I found out she has this whole rabid fanbase and it is mind boggling.

It's been sooo long since I've seen Thor but I can't imagine Darcy described as "quiet" or "unbecoming". Plain? Compared to what?? I'd take Kat Dennings over Natalie Portman any day

Ugh, this. I couldn't stand her character.

Then again, I hate Funny Talking Animal characters in kid-films, and she's just the live-action equivalent. Ugh ugh ugh.

I don't mind Darcy but her being left out wouldn't really ruin the experience of the Thor films for me. Someone else could get most of her comic lines I suppose.

The only thing I don't really understand is why she gets shipped with Loki so much. Is it because the actors used to date? I just don't get it.

I had very little opinion about Darcy one way or the other just based on the movie(s), but fandom has kind of made me dislike her. I don't find her nearly as interesting or awesome as a large portion of the MCU fanbase apparently does, and the way she's used a lot of the time in fic kind of reads as authors hijacking her character for self-insert fantasies.

The writers are trying way too hard in appealing to the "lol random" type of humor with her. "Give me your shoe" seriously?

Oh no, how dare there be a character female fans identify with? Better replace her with an airbrushed blonde with a designer wardrobe and a vague but cool job that she never bothers going to because she's too busy having three-martini lunches and worrying about her love life.

Well, and I don't get the massive amount of hate directed at Darcy...

It's not even that I'm interested in her in a fannish way or identify with her, but I liked her a whole lot in both movies and think she added to the fun. (And sure, different strokes for different folks and all that, but I can't help but wonder what people who dislike Darcy because of her 'personality flaws' think of Tony Stark, who seems to be the fandom darling despite being so much more flawed?)

...Gotta agree there, sorta. She actually reminded me of a couple "friends" I had who basically were only my friends because I know no one else liked them and didn't want the drama of telling them to leave ME alone too, so I spent most of the movie going "pleeeeease Jane have more spine than I did, pleeeeeeease".

If you read the comics she's in, you'd see she's not just comic relief. She's also really good with computers and got around SHIELD's firewall in Norway.

What would "pretty in an unbecoming way" even fucking mean, LOL

I'm not a fan of Darcy because I don't like shoehorned comic relief characters in general and it doesn't help when they're not even funny to me - but she was actually funny at some parts in the second Thor movie and her relationship with Selvig endeared her to me a little. But I still hate the obnoxious prevalence of fanfic that feels suspiciously like "I can relate to Darcy therefore every superhero wants to fuck her." Umm, sorry. (And yes, it does kind of affect me when it seems like every friggin' het fic that I want to read comes with an undesirable side dish of Darcy/Loki or whatever.)

I liked Darcy in the first film. But HATED her in the second. It was like they took her "random one liners/comic relief role" and turned it up to eleven. I think everything that came out of her mouth was some stupid sarcastic one liner.

I know people bitch "Oh, but they pair her with everyone!KE$@$)!!!" but, seriously, have you BEEN in the Marvel Cinematic (or comic) Universe fandom at all? They ship everyone with everyone! The Avengers are generally poly for no apparent reason! So they like this secondary character. So the fuck what? How does it hurt you to avoid that part of fandom?
