The first situation could come across as skeevy and grooming, whereas to me there isn't anything wrong with the second one because just meeting someone when you're young and then being with them when you're old (with no or minimal contact between those stages) doesn't feel like the older person is grooming the younger or taking advantage of what could be considered a position of power in the younger person's life.
Also, this secret reminds me of a recent rant on fanficrants, and I have to wonder if the secret-maker is the person that person was ranting about...
