Yes. You see, I was 12 going on 13, and my best friend said to me...

Yep. At funerals of course, but I also went on a field trip to a chiropractic college. They had a lab with a bunch of dead bodies for the students to work on. Some were fairly fresh but there was one really old and sort of looked like jerky.

My grandfather six years ago. He was already embalmed, though.

Dissecting small mammals in biology classes doesn't count, I guess.

I've attended a few open casket funerals. Never seen one "in the wild".

My last year in a high school we could voluntary go to see an autopsy.

Not counting funerals, no.

Yes, at a funeral that was on my birthday. The fact I had to touch it [it's a tradition around here, or was at the time. It may have died out since] is what gave me this phobia about touching dead bodies. -shudders-

Excluding funerals, I saw an older man get hit by a car and get rushed off by the paramedics. I don't know if he died or not.

Excluding animals/museums/documentaries and that one russian video.

A (presumed suicide) bridge into river

Train, but it was mostly blood and I didn't realise until later. I thought someone had spilt paint...

From a distance: my dad and I drove by a crime scene (a man had been shot) and we were just early enough to see the body out on the sidewalk. Actually now thinking about it, I'm surprised that the road wasn't blocked or something, but I guess we were far enough away.

Yes.

I worked as a "mid-wife"'s apprentice in the cult I grew up in so before I turned fifteen I'd seen a fair share of miscarriages, still-borns, a dude a mobile home fell on and squashed into two pieces, a dude who was supposedly electrocuted, and some elderly people who died of cancer and other diseases.

I never had physical contact with them because I was a virgin so I was never allowed to handle corpses. Once someone was suspected of being very soon dead or already dead I was dismissed to preserve my "purity" and was only allowed to observe corpse preparation rituals through a window as part of a teaching exercise. I only broke the rule once when I attempted to resuscitate an infant the midwife pronounced dead, he survived for a couple hours after I got him responsive again so I wasn't actually considered defiled by the contact.

Since I've left the cult I've only seen the corpse of a homeless guy hit by a drunk driver. I've never been to a funeral.

Of humans, only at funerals.

As far as seeing beings I care for die, pets.

And well, meat's on display at the supermarket, so technically speaking it would be rather hard for anyone to avoid seeing a dead body... (plz to not be taking this as a "meat is murder!" declaration; I myself am a vegetarian and find meat unsettling for various reasons, but I recognize that it is part of a traditional, natural diet for humans and a large portion of the animal world as well, so go on and enjoy it without me. ;))

A few times when I was in the army. Nothing really stands out except a helicopter crash and an execution by firing squad.

Twice, my grandmother in the old folks home basement in her casket before she got sent to the church. Also my cousin in her casket a couple of days before her funeral, which is by far the worst thing I have ever experienced in my admittedly pretty shitty life. The smell stays with you...

Yes. It was everything and nothing like you would expect. Also, whoever wrote that secret is way off. Decomposing flesh has a distinct, sweet smell. Not at all like blood.

Twice.

The first time was while I was on holiday in Greece when I was about 10-11. My family and I was at the beach when a lady had a heart attack or something in the water and drowned. When they carried her out of the water to try and revive her, they laid her on the sunbed next to me. Which really freaked me out and I spent most of the day in my hotel room crying.

The second time was at a hospital when my grandfather died.

Stupid funeral home people are always running me over with the corpses at work! I swear they don't look before turning corners.

Also, our department is right next to the morgue (which is next to the kitchens - which is something I try not to think too hard about...).
