Depend on the game. Some games are still pretty expansive, even after a while. And your also including things like consoles, which usually around $200 at least usually if you want it in good enough condition. And some people don't have good enough computers to play some of the bigger games.

It's really a matter of people not wanting to spend more on a hobby than their rent. And the fact that videogames usually take a lot more time than music, books, or movies.
