IA.

They could easily get into other fandoms or *gasp* play it, but no, they keep watching LPs and claiming to be fans of a game because of it.
How the hell are they fans if they haven't played it? I get they can like the story or something, but that's it.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
This, yeah

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Probably the same way people can be fans of Thor without reading all of the comics and the whole Nordic mythology.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
No.

A comparable situation would be if you read the script of Thor and then claimed to be a fan of the movie. Be a script fan all you want but you don't get to claim your experience of the movie is equally valid to the rest of us who actually saw the whole thing.

But if you watch an LP then you actually DID see "the whole thing" in the case of at least some games, so what is your point here?

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
(DA)
But you didn't play it, which is the point of games.
riddian: (Default)

[personal profile] riddian 2013-11-25 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
But you know what-all happens in it, which is the point of being a fan of it.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
And if the whole point of games where knowing what happens, they wouldn't be games.

I don't really get why you people don't get that.

Who is "you people"? I don't have any mice in my pocket.

The "whole point" of games is having fun. If people are having fun by watching LPs, then they have gotten the point.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
The point of every media is to have fun, but they still have differences that make them unique. Game or to be played and LPs and not games...

Ah, you know what? I give up. Thanks for remind me why I never talk about games anymore, since now everyone is a fan of something they don't even play.

Because being a "fan" of something means liking it. You don't get to police how other people enjoy something they enjoy.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
It's ok being "fan of the story" or "fan of the soundtrack" or "fan of the characters" or "fan of LPs" or whatever you want, but don't pretend to be a fan of the GAME if you haven't fucking played it. Thx bye.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
But these are all the things that make the game, with the exception of button-hitting. So they are fans of the games, just not of button hitting.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
exception of button-hitting

hahahahahahahaha...

no

There's a lot of strategy involved, using the right approach, the right weapons...

oh, right, the stupid mindless combat.... why how fucking elitist you are.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
To me yes, it is a stupid mindless combat. It can be fun, but it's hardly the most entertaining part of the game. Is it really so hard for you to understand that people can enjoy things differently to you?

Did you just call AYRT elitist?

Pot, meet kettle...

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Clear case of "I don't think that word means what you think it means".

Oh my God, you just sound so, so....invested in this. Why do you CARE so much about something this stupid? About a distinction so completely meaningless?

I am so glad I don't game. My head would explode at all the neckbeard-y rage.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
They seem like the kind of person who also goes "What? You can't name every member of that band, their respective birthdays, favourite foods and colours? How DARE you call yourself a fan of that band!".

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT

The amusing part is that I don't even play games anymore, but when I did it always annoyed me to meet other "fans" or a certain game or even "gamers", talk to them and discover they don't even play.

It's perfectly ok to say you like the story or something, really.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol, you don't even play games and you still consider yourself a better gamer than LP fans, many of whom do in fact play a lot, just not necessarily everything?

[personal profile] diet_poison 2013-11-25 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Shockingly, though, everyone's hobbies and how they experience them aren't subject to your standards of inspection.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Well then. I'm gonna have to tell my friend that even though she sat beside me all the time while playing games, experienced everything I did except maybe for the controller vibration (which we both find annoying, tbh) and basically had the same amount of immersion that she can't call herself a fan of the games we played together anymore because a self proclaimed one true fan on the internet said so!

Just as much as I can not be fan of the games I watched her play anymore.

;_;

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. I also played together with friends. It's way more fun than playing alone.
