Re: Spoilers for Hannibal
(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 12:05 am (UTC)(link)It's not genuine. It's sick and twisted and manipulative and all kinds of wrong. I'm not saying that Hannibal doesn't feel that he is doing things because he cares for him. But he is not right in the head and it is not real affection/genuine kindness. He fucks with Will for his own ends. Not necessarily because it is "fun" but because it is what he thinks is best. What he wants. Rather than what is truly best for Will and taking into account what Will wants.
I like twisted Hannibal/Will; it's not that I am against all Hannibal/Will. But despite there being emotion there, it is not genuine kindness. Not even a little bit. I really don't understand people that can't appreciate the fucked up nature of the relationship and want it to be all fluffy and "OMG Hannibal so cares for Will and they will live happily ever after". I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 01:22 am (UTC)(link)Maybe I'm missing something but... can't affection be both twisted and genuine? And affection and kindness aren't the same thing, so...
Re: Spoilers for Hannibal
(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 01:47 am (UTC)(link)The secret specifically said "like whenever they show any sign of kindness it has to be a total lie" and talked about "doesn't mean they are incapable of genuinely caring for another person" and the first person I replied to said they agreed +1000. So I was going with that. Yes, affection can be genuine (but only in that character's mind) and twisted at the same time. But no, I don't see Hannibal as one capable of showing true kindness or of genuinely caring for another person (beyond what that means for him, I mean really caring about the person and what the person wants).
