Re: MRAs
(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 01:14 am (UTC)(link)In theory, I support some tenants of feminism, though I do not personally identify as such. In practice, however, I have seen enough of the "bad side" of feminism (wrt racial issues, trans* issues, and actual men's issues*) that I am not comfortable with the idea of identifying myself as feminist, (though I don't have a problem with other people doing so, as long as they're not total assholes about it) or with the idea of automatically supporting "feminism" without any sort of criticism/critical outlook.
*rape, lack of shelters, abuse, lack of funding for illnesses in some cases (breast cancer funding vs. prostate cancer funding), circumcision (and while I'm aware that it's not as bad/dangerous as FGM, I am sick of it being brought up whenever discussions about circumcision come up; after all, only one of them is still legal where I live)

Re: MRAs
(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 03:35 am (UTC)(link)Yes. Yes it is, you will not get any argument about that from me. However, it is also not currently legal or common in my country, so I feel like I don't really have the "right" to talk about it, and it frustrates me when it's brought up every time circumcisions is talked about.
Re: MRAs
I mean unless they're doing it so say "look, this is hideous and we've made it illegal; why can't we see that this other thing is hideous and also make it illegal?" But I have a feeling that's not what you meant.
I haven't seen that though...hope I never do.
Re: MRAs
(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 04:37 am (UTC)(link)No, this is an example of what I mean: http://archangellesnowflake.tumblr.com/post/66350559732
(You may wish to skip, though if you want to keep your track record of not seeing any of it, which I totally understand.) :)
Re: MRAs
No, I've never seen that, but I spend very little time on tumblr, so if it's a tumblr phenomenon (like so many others) then that's probably why.
Glad that many people seem to disagree with them though. And I liked the photo set :)

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 05:57 am (UTC)(link)Yeah, me too- that was the only good thing about that comment; it brought out all the people who disagreed.
