(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 01:58 am (UTC)(link)it even makes me to disagree completely with you even though I agree with part of your point2) They don't get that the playing part matters a lot in games. If the plot was perfect itself, it would make a wonderful movie/series/book/comic after removing the playing part, yet it doesn't and so most adaptations of games are bad or seem to lack something.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 02:38 am (UTC)(link)LOL, no.
People have different reasons to play games, that's why there are different type of games. What matter to me probably don't matter to many and that's ok.
But the thing is, many plot points in games are closely related to the gameplay. If you take them out of the game they don't make much sense or are even stupid and it takes a lot of suspension of disbelief to enjoy it because of that.
As a result, most "games" (aka the plot of them) without the game part tend to be rather bad not matter how good the plot seems to be (if you ignore certain details).

and really, I think If you take them out of the game they don't make much sense or are even stupid and it takes a lot of suspension of disbelief to enjoy it because of that is a very subjective assessment.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 05:56 am (UTC)(link)Or things like The Walking Dead game, which is basically "Making Difficult Moral Choices: The Game", if you're not doing it yourself then what's the fucking point? Basically any game with significant choices sucks a lot more if you're not making the choices.
I don't even understand how so many people are trying so desperately to downplay the interactivity of a medium entirely based around interactivity.
"Hurr people can enjoy games however they want". Of course they can, but don't try to argue that they're not missing out on anything.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)No one is saying it isn't possible to understand the story, but that playing something changes the experience and that game logic doesn't work well in other media.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-26 12:02 am (UTC)(link)And in that I agree with you, but not with the rest. Guess we'll have to agree to disagree.
