But I assume most porny fic is for an audience, not for the author's sole benefit? I could see why a character-study fic or something would be more for the author's own satisfaction, but porn fic is usually a very audience-oriented endeavor, especially on kinkmemes.

I assume if people are writing porn they find it enjoyable. Maybe I'm assuming wrong, but it seems odd to me that people would write something that they find gross or a turn off.

How is "neglecting to mention, in the middle of a sex scene, that Character X is getting fat" gross or a turn-off?

(Anonymous) 2013-11-26 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
You've misunderstood me.

ayrt

I'm just saying, there's a big difference between an author forcing themselves to write something they find gross, and simply restraining themselves from putting too many of their own specific predilections on display when it's superfluous to the story they're writing.

Or, they're writing from a particular character's pov and the character notices those particular details. Just because mentioning human elements in porn turns you off doesn't mean it's superfluous to the story.

If fic writers want to put details into their fic that you don't enjoy or *gasp* want to write to their own predilections, they certainly can. You're certainly not paying them to write, much less write something that you specifically will find hot. Until there's money on the table, they aren't writing for or to a particular audience, much less you. They're writing for personal satisfaction... which is where those personal details and predilections come in.

(And why most prompts on kink memes don't get fills... because your kink certainly isn't going to be something that every writer wants to write. And they've got no obligation to write to you or for your enjoyment.)

For real? I haven't written much porn, but everything I have done is completely self-indulgent. I doubt that everyone else is the same, but I imagine there are still others who are writing mostly to their own desires.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-26 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
yep. I write porn to hit my kinks, and if other people enjoy it, it is a benefit.

hence I only fill prompts which are ones that *I* find sexy

(Anonymous) 2013-11-26 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah but here's an audience of one whose biggest turnoff is bland perfection.

Ok c'mon. IA with the sentiment, but I don't think there's anyone on earth who will actually dislike a fic if it doesn't have at least one description of a character's most unattractive feature. This isn't like visual porn, where people have to suffer through generic barbie dolls. In written porn, the worst that would happen is that a fic that doesn't describe unattractive features would be a tiny bit less hot to those people who happen to enjoy those mentions.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-26 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but if you're trying to hit those people's kinks, I guess you put it in. It really, really doesn't matter - if this porn doesn't turn your crank, just read different porn. This is surprisingly easy.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-26 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
I can't speak for everyone, but the more I write for myself, the more other people like it.

I right porn because when it's done, I want to have it to read again and again later, because I know what I find hot. If other people like it, that's a bonus.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-27 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
You mean you WRITE porn, not RIGHT porn.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-26 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
I find the fics I write, where I just let go and write what I want in porn, are the best received.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-26 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Porn fic is generally written for an audience, yes. And that audience is people who find the aspects of that porn fic hot. If you don't happen to be one of those people, the problem isn't that the author's failing to please their intended audience, the problem is that you're assuming that indended audience is you.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-27 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Er, why wouldn't I write porn for my own benefit? If a fandom is lacking in my kinks, or worse, shames them, you betcha I'm going to fill the void. Then, not surprisingly, I tend to find others who say "yeah, that's sexy to me, too!" if I post it publicly. Because what floats my boat floats theirs, but they either can't or don't feel comfortable writing it themselves.
