I hate that too; I would have put that in my own list but you beat me to it. It seems that writers believe that if a hero does a stupid/terrible/nasty thing then they can't be heroic or good people. When in fact I would respect a person MORE if they did a terrible thing, realised it, and tried to do something about it or at least accepted the consequences with dignity.

It gets even worse when said character dicks over other characters, only those characters forgive them or are portrayed as eeeeevil for NOT forgiving them. I usually write the series off at that point.
