I don't think anyone will really care what you post, especially if you're not insulting anyone.

Do you mean just reblogging stuff? Because I'd say that is what the majority of users do on Tumblr: Reblog things. If you are just Liking Stuff, I doubt people will care either (though Reblogging things is so much easier because you can search through them later using tags). And no one cares if someone following them is an empty blog.

Just mention you don't see what the fuss about Moffatt is and you should get vitriol from both fandom and SJWs. Really isn't that hard. :P

No one cares what you do as long as you're not stealing art or being racist/sexist/whatever.

All those things you listed you worry about? Now one cares. No one. You're fine.

Trolling Tumblr is pretty funny. No matter how obvious you are, they will still fall for it and write you tl;dr telling you how offensive you're and that you need to kill yourself and deserve to die (according to them being racist/homophobic/transphobic deserves death, it's insane).

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
You make me want to create a tumblr to troll. It sounds fun. As an immigrant woman of color, I'm so damn sick of SJWs telling me how I'm supposed to feel.

I'm so sad I can't do this

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2013-12-01 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
I tried at once point, but I just kept getting blocked. nobody cares enough to hate me... though I don't really go to the really volatile places either so there you go.

Your online presence is inconsequential.

[personal profile] fingalsanteater 2013-11-30 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
No one cares- and anyone caring, especially on Tumblr, is a pretense quickly forgotten.

If you're just ganking pics to your drive and following people without posting, liking, or reblogging anything, then really the worst you can expect is that no one will follow you in return, which it sounds like you don't care about anyway since you don't want to be social. If you're liking and reblogging but not posting or commenting, you're just fine. Tumblr is much more forgiving to chronic lurkers than most "social" sites.

There's people who do that anyways. They only repost stuff.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I will never understand what's the point of this, unless it's a blog about a certain topic/character and is trying to collect the best posts about the subject.

I don't think people actually pay that much attention, to be quite honest.

If you follow people but post nothing, they just won't interact with you. You can still look at their pictures, the same you would do if you were following any blog that didn't follow you back.

But then, if you post solely to create wank you will piss people off so I'm not sure which you want to achieve here.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Why do you need to worry about any of that? Why do you have to announce yourself at all? Popular blogs have thousands of followers, how are they going to notice that yours has no content? Why would they care?

[personal profile] badass_tiger 2013-11-30 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
If you don't post anything at all, I don't think anybody will be very concerned. And you can piss off rabid SJWs with minimal effort. I've done it by accident plenty of times.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
There's no, like, Tumblr etiquette that says you can't just lurk. It doesn't sound like you're there to make friends, so having an empty blog won't hurt interaction. And no one's going to care if an empty blog follows them, if they even notice. Don't worry about any of it!
nyxelestia: Rose Icon (Default)

Doesn't the majority of Tumblr basically just lurk?

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2013-12-01 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
That's always been the impression I go - most people just reblog and like stuff and occasionally PM each other or something, but otherwise most of the interaction happens between a few people, or between 'lurkers' and BNFs (or, um, Medium-NFs, as the case may be on Tumblr?).

There's absolutely nothing wrong with this.

Go. Collect pictures. Have your fun.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-01 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
If the person has over a few hundred followers, they're very unlikely to even click on your name when you follow.

You are a good person. Troll them all.

Also within like, a day of active posting your first post will be gone, so don't even bother with an intro. Just leave it in your status.

I think you are really overthinking tumblr tbh

(Anonymous) 2013-12-01 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
How can you overthink anything like Tumblr?

If you are going somewhere new that you know little about, with a lot of people and a reputation, you should think about how you are going to go about it and lurk some, too, to get a feel for it. Just like with any other forum.

You're overthinking this. No one cares.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-01 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
Don't troll ppl on tumblr! They're vulnerable flowers spending there all day, young impressionable people 10 years old and up. Have pity!

And Tumblr really is a comfortable place to lurk. I don't care if I have very few followers there, surprisingly I don't feel socially unsuccessful at all.

Secret 6 - Tumblr, fandom, social justice warriors, trolling

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2014-01-05 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a photograph of a small kitten with the caption "Cause mischief?" and below the options "Yes" and "No". The words are positioned to look like the cat is trying to reach the "Yes" option with its paw.]

I recently made my first ever Tumblr just to gank images/gifs of an actor I like. I have no idea how to interact, or even act, on Tumblr, or if I'm going to offend people by following them from an account that has nothing posted. Would it bug people if I made a single post saying "I'm just here for the pics"?

On the other hand, I find that I have a childish urge to do weird yet ultimately innocuous shit just to see if I can piss off some rabid Social Justice Warriors.
