While I completely agree that the story line where Buffy was depressed for most of the season wasn't great, I think you may have missed the point.

She was depressed because her friends basically stole heaven from her. She was in a place that was warm, where she was happy, and where she didn't have to fight any more. She was done.

Then, the people who were supposed to love her the most ripped her out of there to come back to the world where everything was hard and she had to fight and kill and watch those she loves die around her once more. I can understand that being hard for her.

Also, though she may have gotten to some heaven dimension the first time, there's no guarantee that it will be there the next time.

All of this. Buffy had been through a lot of shit and even if her angst about missing heaven was a bit tiresome to watch, I don't think I would have acted any better in her shoes

In defense of her friends, I don't think there's any way they could be expected to know she was in heaven. Sure, she sacrificed herself saving the world, but their world sucks. They know demons exist, they know hell(s) exist/s, but heaven? The closest they've ever got to any counteracting force of good are the Powers That Be's half-assed attempts at balance, none of which show much concern for the people who have to do the actual work. Other than the freak snowfall in 'Amends', was there any prior evidence for a force of good? They have no reason to believe in heaven.

Considering that she died from jumping into a dimensional gate, even assuming she went to a hell dimension isn't completely out of line -- though they should have at least looked into verifying it.

*nods*

That was my understanding as well. She just managed to slip through worlds into a "good" dimension. She could just have easily ended up in Pylea or the world without shrimp. Now, you can read intention into it--that TPTB directed her to that dimension, but I can also buy it as a fluke.
