(Anonymous) 2013-12-03 01:06 am (UTC)(link)I wanted people to give their thoughts on the group not their thoughts on my thoughts on the group. Clearly I failed.
Re: "Real gamer girls"
(Anonymous) 2013-12-03 01:08 am (UTC)(link)And the worst part? I failed with one. fucking. word.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-03 01:14 am (UTC)(link)Sorry, the quote is wrong. You didn't use "ladies".
Re: "Real gamer girls"
There's nothing wrong with asking "are there ladies here who game who have an opinion on these ladies?" or something to that effect. But you managed, with one phrase, to both use "gamer girls" (a phrase that insinuates that women who game are an anomaly and a special category of gamers) and "real gamers" (dredging up the old debate about who is "allowed" to call themself a gamer and basically being really elitist about it).
If you really didn't know, then I'd encourage you to think about these things, anon. I was blunt with my comment below, though I'm not trying to be an asshole. But I also don't like being characterized as an exotic special unique exhibit of gaming, and I also don't like the elitism and cred wars that are so commonplace in parts of the larger gaming community.

Re: "Real gamer girls"
(Anonymous) 2013-12-03 03:03 am (UTC)(link)I do agree with what you're saying here. tbh I'm kind of skeptical about the whole existence of a "gamer culture" and whether that's even a meaningful identity. But to the extent that it is one, yeah, I definitely agree w you.
