I love The White Road by perverse-idyll. Lily's POV captures everything beautifully and the blooming romance between Snape and Harry is wonderfully told and believable. Same with Lily's response to figuring out that they are in love with each other. The flash backs are well written and I enjoyed seeing all the murauders gang hanging out in heaven of sorts as well.

The fleshing out of Snape and Lily's past relationship is excellent as well and makes me feel for both of them.

Hey HP anon, here's something I was going to rec you

I loooove this fic. I love seeing a relationship form from an outsider's perspective, which is not something we see often. I can only think of one other HP fic that does it and one Digimon 02 fic.

HPanon here, it is added to my list of stuff to read. Wasn't sure whether to reply to this or to sootyowl's comment. But since you called me out in the header, I replied here. Thanks for the notification.

I can't find either other them! (The Digimon one may require the wayback machine.) I'm going to have to look later when I'm not on my phone.

Drat. Well if you do find them, let me know. If not, that's okay. Thanks for checking anyways :)

That fic is so good.

Oh, that's tough. Just one? To make it easier on myself, I'm going to limit it to my absolute favorite fic I've read in the past month, and it's one I just discovered today:

Til I Met You (Buffy the Vampire Slayer/7th Heaven): Immediately after the season 7 finale, the Buffy team gets stuck in Glen Oak, Calif., a sleepy little town that isn't ready for what followed them in, and meets a pastor's daughter who who ends up being more than meets the eye. http://archiveofourown.org/works/701934/chapters/1294073

I thought there was no way this fic could work, because 7H was such a bad show of such a different genre, but this story is a little hidden gem. Trigger warning for emotional abuse though.

I don't like anything about 7th Heaven but this is intriguing!

SA

Realized I completely forgot to mention WHY I like this story. From the 7th Heaven front, it kind of addresses all the things that show did wrong, most notably the horrible relationship between Lucy and Kevin, but also the way the twins became set dressing, and it forced the Camden parents to re-evaluate how they saw their family. And from the Buffy standpoint, it's just a lot of fun with good voice and inside references.

Oh, lord. I thought about Apocalypse Week, because you need no other BBT fics, and I thought about Saving Horse Feathers, because Sarah Jane and Harry and the Doctor and the Marx brothers, and I REEEEALLY thought about Miranda, because it does Serenity but better....

...but really it's Balance by rabbit and jinx, because it starts with professors fighting a Balrog and continues through inter-house unity and stays delightful and thrilling all the way through. AND DAT MCGONAGALL THO.

the Song Unsung, by Khaleesian (Thor/Loki)
http://archiveofourown.org/works/552028/chapters/983551

Why is it my favorite? I love the worldbuilding. I love how the interpersonal conflicts happen and have weight and emotional impact without the author resorting to bullshit cop-outs like 'evil!Odin'. I love the endless adventures - the interplay of classic fantasy tropes, Norse myth, and Marvel canon. I love that Loki is as mysterious and tricky and untrustworthy as he should be, without losing his more positive traits. I love that Thor is the perfect balance between clueless and clever, bumbling and sensitive. I love that the story shows their love for each other, rather than telling. And I love that the sequel is pretty damn awesome, too.

(And I know you said ONE, but tbh I have two fav works that are tied. I like this one for many of the same reasons I love the Song Unsung, but I have to give spicyshimmy even more kudos for the flawless characterization. Shit's perf.)

Yikes! That hard. Um, this might not be my favorite of everything ever, but it's the first one that comes to mind:

The Fifth Act is a Final Fantasy VII fanfic where Cloud gets into a fight with a Zolom and ends up accidentally being transported through time to back when the war with Wutai was going on. It's really, really well written and it has so many of the things I love: secret identities, time travel, strong friendships, awkward misunderstandings (but not in the way that makes everyone involved look like an idiot). Zack, Genesis, Angael, Sephiroth, and Kunsel are all involved, and watching them try to figure out what the heck is up with this bizarre stranger is fantastic.

Five Times Pippi Longstocking Turned Down an Offer, and One Time She Said Yes

http://archiveofourown.org/works/238765

This is proof that multi-crossovers DO sometimes work. I'm not even familiar with all the fandoms, but it doesn't matter because everything fits so perfectly into the story. Unlike most AU fic of things originally aimed at children, it sticks to the spirit of the source material and doesn't try to make it GRIMDARK; Pippi is perfectly in-character (that's the second time in this paragraph I've used the word "perfectly", but I think it's an apt description).

Also, it's short enough that it doesn't take a long time to read, but not so short that it leaves the reader unsatisfied.

And it gives me warm fuzzies. That's a very important factor.
