Just started watching this show, I'm in the middle of Season 3 at the moment.

Could somebody please recommend some good fics? The prospect of wading through the AO3 archives to find the gems in the river of shit is not a pleasant one. And I'm not touching the kinkmeme with a ten-foot pole.

I don't have any preferred pairings or AUs or anything like that. Just looking for the best SPN fic you can recommend.

However, I would prefer to avoid A/B/O, wincest, underage, and dubcon/noncon. It squicks me out.

k hanna korossy on ff.net writes brother-focused gen, and if you start with their earliest chronologically it should be early-ish in the show.

Here are some authors you should check out, they are awesome. Astolat, big_pink, kroki_refur, essenceofmeanin, rivkat, electricalgwen, winterlive, whereupon, traveller, maygra, rageprufrock, poisontaster, ignipes, esorlehcar, eloise_bright, onelittlesleep, ethrosdemon, lyra_wing, rei_c, marishna, mona1347, teand, .... Some of these people are not active in the fandom anymore, or on LJ/DW anymore, but their fic is still up.

So I'm getting into the series again but I've never read fic for it. I'm open to almost anything, but I want something long and plotty with lots of adventure as well as a good focus on friendship between the characters. Romance is alright as long as it isn't student/teacher romance and isn't the main focus of the plot. The romance can be m/m f/f or m/f, I don't care. No AUs please.

My favourite series is the 'Resonance' series by GreenGecko on fanfiction.net. They are EXTREMELY long and plotty, going AU after I believe the 5th book, include Mentor!Snape in the most believable way possible and without woobifying him, lots of worldbuilding, and minimal romance. Highly recommended.

Try phoenixsong.net and sugarquill.net - those generally have the sorts of fics I think you're looking for, though SugarQuill has been defunct as a site for years, so a lot of the better fics were written before the last book. They're also only canon pairings. There's also a genfic fest, hp_holidaygen, that's actually posting fics right now.

It's not that you're being picky - it's more that the fandom is spread out, even now when it's so much quieter.

Something focusing on Luke, Han, Leia or any combination thereof, except I'm not really interested in shipfic. I don't care if ships are present, but I'm not looking for stories where the ship is the point. Unless Han is waxing poetic about the Millenium Falcon, I guess. :)

I'm not picky on whether it's movie-based or EU-based, but I kind of fell behind in the expanded Universe relatively early in the New Jedi Order series. Like, I know sort of what goes down with the Solo kids, and I'm sure it's rife for emotional stories for everyone, but I'm not to that point yet.

So, pretty much anything set between A New Hope and NJO: Hero's Trial.
