well, just because they're blond and have blue eyes doesn't mean they're NOT a marginalized group. They got sold into slavery, their culture and way of living were diminished/erased etc.
Just like Eastern European, "slavic races", got shit from racial theories and are also white.

Look into it, instead of just assuming everyone who's white must be privileged. This somehow seems like a very American thing to assume.

Although Frozen isn't really based on the fairy tale, so I don't particular care. It's nice to have two big female leads, that should be supported.

Given that I've seen the (admittedly more extreme) SJWs on tumblr saying that Jews, Eastern Europeans, etc, have "white privilege"... I kind of feel like they wouldn't have seen it this way.

Agreed at the niceness of having two female leads. I can't think of the last movie I had that focussed on a pair of sisters.

That's an extreme view? My family is East European. Other than a very small minority of people who've asked if I'm mixed, for the most part someone just picking me out of a crowd, I get labelled as 'white' with no other location/ethnic markers. So I'd say my family and I have white privilege in that sense.

Or are you making a distinction between East Europeans in America and East Europeans in Europe? Because then that's not even an ethnic thing anymore but an ethnic + current location combo.

my POV is Western Europe and yeah, as far as you can even differentiate between "races", East European get discriminated here. Although current location + discrimination against immigrants is probably a good point as well.

Globally you would have a white privilege of course, but if we go with displaying the accurate ethnic + partly racial? diversity of a country, then I side eye it if they didn't include different groups.

There's a huge difference between actually being East European and being of East European descent. This claim to "I'm X nationality" from people who grew up in the US is really, really weird to most Europeans.

+1 This

I was so baffled when I visited the States and people kept cheerfully telling me that they're Polish (like 1/4th or 1/8th, I assume, because their Polishness boiled down to being able to say, sometimes, "Good morning" in Polish), "just like me". I get why it's important to Americans to know where they ancestors came from and that it's identity issue, but, hell, your "I'm Polish" and my "I'm Polish" is so NOT the same thing. I was really, really weird.

*IT was really, really weird ;)

I can see how it would be really strange. But it comes from the nature of the country and how its populated almost entirely by immigrants. "The old country" mentality is prevalent in people who are even several generations in.

I saw the medivalPoc post, which did it justice imo. Can't throw them all into one pot. It also kind of shows that the backslash isn't automatically better informed, although OP says they looked into it later?? idk.

true. There's Leelo and Stitch, but there's a reason why I love that movie.

Lilo & Stitch. Everyone seems to forget that movie. While the main focus was Lilo and the alien Stitch, it was also about Lilo and her sister Nani.

I've seen tumblr SJWs actually say that Jews had white privilege during the fucking Holocaust, as compared to the Roma.

Why, did they get to be first in line to the gas chambers or were their gas chambers of a higher quality? Oh I know, the gas was "purer" in the Jewish gas chambers!

The even better part

Just as important, I think, Is that it's nice to have two female leads in a GOOD movie. Kids movie sure, but it's actually quite a good film. Disney restored a lot of my faith in the company (Pixar never counts) with it and Wreck it Ralph.

I'm wary of idea of supporting something purely because of it's representation. it's all well and good if representation draws interest to something (Night Vale is a good example) but for it to actually be a lasting, positive thing, quality is also needed. After all if you support crap because x group is in it... you'll encourage people to make more crap.*

*Note: Crap is subjective and if you actually like something this never applies no matter who disagrees with you
