This might be a stupid question, but is there something wrong with portraying light-skinned minorities? I mean, Jews are pretty light-skinned (with the obvious African exceptions), and they're a minority.

Then again, if he was raised by trolls, he could have had Sami parents for all we know.

well, just because they're blond and have blue eyes doesn't mean they're NOT a marginalized group. They got sold into slavery, their culture and way of living were diminished/erased etc.
Just like Eastern European, "slavic races", got shit from racial theories and are also white.

Look into it, instead of just assuming everyone who's white must be privileged. This somehow seems like a very American thing to assume.

Although Frozen isn't really based on the fairy tale, so I don't particular care. It's nice to have two big female leads, that should be supported.

1. Just because someone is white and blond doesn't mean they aren't of an ethnic group. White people have ethnic subgroups just like other races. Pretty obviously: Mediterranians =/= Germanics =/= Celts =/= Slavics. Even if they are all white people, those cultural differences are important.

2. Tumblr is not progressive. It's mostly full of teenagers and younger adults who have little experience in real-world activism and are encouraged by the site's culture to have a very black-and-white view on these kinds of topics.

Well, it's thanks to my Sami ancestry that I'm regularly taken for being Spanish, Italian or from somewhere in the Middle East. Vaguely tanned skinn + black hair + the right facial features passed down = recognisably not Nordic. But shyeah, there's been cross-cultural marriages for centuries and the bluest eyes I know belong in the face of a prominent Sami actor.

Secret 8 - Frozen, ethnic representation, tumblr, social justice

They have rosy light skin and blonde to dark hair. Their clothing has mostly red, yellow, white and blue colors and is very warm.]

After seeing Frozen, I read an article about how Kristoff's clothes were supposedly Sami-influenced, and was like, "okay, I guess tumblr was right in this one. They could've totally added some diversity by making him Sami." So I looked up pictures of Sami people.

THEY'RE WHITE. THEY ARE FUCKING WHITE AND BLONDE. DOES TUMBLR NOT REALIZE IT'S COMPLAINING ABOUT THERE NOT BEING ENOUGH WHITE AND BLONDE PEOPLE IN A MOVIE FILLED WITH WHITE AND BLONDE PEOPLE?

My favourite was the people who presented picture evidence that the Sami are PoC. They googled Sami, saw the entire page full of white, blond people, and cherry picked the two pictures with dark haired people.

Before you get too comfortable on that high horse, OP, let's just remember that 1) Sami have been intermarrying with non-Sami people for centuries and 2) people can identify as Sami based on their cultural heritage, even if the actual percentage of Sami genetic contribution to their DNA is tiny. So pointing to random pictures of modern Sami doesn't mean anything.

As a minor corrective, here are a couple of pictures of Sami from the late-19th century I found on Wikipedia:

If his clothes indicated he was Sami, tumblr still wouldn't have been happy until he stopped the movie to go on a monologue on all the injustices he's had to endure. But it'd have to be extremely accurate or tumblr sjw would STILL be pissed. AND THEN even if it's the most genuine account of oppression, if Anna doesn't crawl under a snow mound and feels terrible about her new-found white guilt they still wouldn't be happy.

If the clothing design is based off Sami clothing, and Sami as a people don't have any obvious features like skin tone or hair color or eye shape, etc. that would distinguish them within the stylization of the animation ... what would they have done to spell out THIS CHARACTER IS SAMI? From the pictures you've included that character could very well BE Sami.
