Another anon chiming in to say this is truly awful advice, and I headdesk every time I see it. Starphotographs is right, it's not a linear thing. I will say this, though, if you are an employable adult, and are not willing to MAKE your life better, when you are in a bad situation, then that's all on you. Sucks, but it's the truth. You can spend your time worrying, griping, drowning in self-pity over your bad situation...or you can do everything within your power (however small that thing might be) to actively better yourself, or to get yourself into a different situation than the one you're in, or to change the situation completely, if you can't happen to get out of it.

Perspective helps a lot. The older you get, the longer your view tends to get, and it's like, "Seriously, self? You went ballistic on somebody over THAT?" The long view is quite revealing. Especially after you've done a whole lot of living, good, bad, AND ugly.
