"Giving up and running away from your problems won't solve anything."

Yeah, tell that to my parents who fled tyranny. And in my case, leaving my problems behind and taking a different route entirely probably saved my sanity.
starphotographs: I like him. He kind of looks and acts like one of my characters. (I did not know this when I started liking him!) (Victor (...>:|))

Oh god, this is another one that I've always hated. A hell of a lot of problems become a non-issue when you back away from whatever was causing them.

Seriously. Sometimes you have to regroup.

Yes and no. If you cut and run at every little thing, that's bad. If you stay (and stay and stay and stay and say...you get the picture) in a bad situation well past the time you SHOULD have gotten outta Dodge, that's all on (the general) you.

From the frying pan into the fire is a cliche for a reason. That kind of running away is not good. Actively getting yourself into a better sitch is likely the most important thing you'll ever do.

Eh, well, it's a philosophy that's worked for me, more or less, over my life. Though I've family members who've done the reverse (taken the bad advice in question), and it sucked HARD, man.
starphotographs: ...I'm not that bad, though. And I don't even light things on fire! Well, not regularly... (Izaya (devious))

This is how I do things, pretty much. "Make it work or GTFO" is a good motto. :)
