If you continue reading, he goes on to say:

"I am VERY strict with my price; I will not go above $30.00!!!!"

Either way, it's baffling to me. Judging from this ad he's not a very good writer, so I guess I get why he wants someone to do the work for him -- but seriously, who'd be dumb enough to do it?

Well, ghost writers used to be/possibly still are fairly common, but I have no idea where he's getting those prices. Professional writers don't come cheap.

$10-30 for 5000 words, way too cheap.

EDIT: wait it'd be two scenes so ~10k words. Hell no that's WAY too little.

Too cheap for 10k word scenes that need to be rather specific. I'd do it for $100 at the very least.

O_o it's not even the nature of his request that's offputting, but that last part about only using Google docs so he can follow along and provide feedback. all of that screams hell no.

That's a good point! I read it more as a "I'm too manly to write about gross gays, so I need someone to do it for me" -- but it could very well be that he wants to get off on watching someone do it.

AHAHAHAHAHA. No.

That does not sound like a good work investment at all. The whole "MUST work from Google docs" screams nope as well.

...but he just wrote it...I'm thinking copypasta the ad, clean it up/pad it out a little, $50, Bob's your uncle. No?

...on second thought, the guy prolly wouldn't pay.

My first thought was "write it yourself man" and then I got to "in-hail" and was like, oh

Lmao!

No way in-hail should they write it themselves.

Re: what on earth

The person edited the listing, he's not paying $50, he's paying $30 tops. Since he wants two 5K scenes, that's .003 of a cent per word, an insultingly low offer for a ghost written work, especially when you're essentially giving up your rights to it. How would you feel if this (miraculously and against the odds) guy's novel became a hot bestseller and he raked in 50 Shades of Gray-level money and all you got was $30?

This is called "work for hire". You would have no legal recourse for any portion of those royalties because you were paid upfront, with no other expectation of payment. You would not own those scenes even if you wrote them. That's why ghost writers charge a hell of a lot more than .003 a word-- because that's all they're getting, end of story. Those are just the technical reasons why this is a bad idea. It's also a bad idea because this guy is one of those assholes who thinks writing is near-worthless, and he should get it for practically free. We shouldn't encourage that kind of thinking because it's BS.

So, all that for providing what is almost certainly a cheap bastard's wank material, assuming he actually coughs up your money? HELL NO.

Re: what on earth

(Anonymous) 2013-12-09 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
I'd write it, but I'd want more than $50 for 10k words tailored specifically to his request, especially since I'd want to do research to make sure I was getting details about things I have never experienced myself (guns, cigarettes) right.

Re: what on earth

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2013-12-09 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
I am a bad person because my first thought was that he should find a kink meme, request this and then just find+replace names.

But that probably wouldn't satisfy the level of control he seems to want & wanting to watch the work in progress is a bit ? What exactly is he keeping track of?

Re: what on earth

(Anonymous) 2013-12-09 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Nah. I could probably write my own porn and either send it to publishers or put it online myself and make more money than that.

Re: what on earth

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2013-12-09 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
At that rate? No. Not even slightly worth it. He's asking far, far below the per-word rate that I'd be getting if I did freelance copywriting in my area. $50 for 10K words is fucking ridiculous and nobody in their right mind should work for a wage that low.

Re: what on earth

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2013-12-09 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
And now I just read that he changed it to $30? HAHAHAHA FUCK THAT SHIT I'M OUT.

Re: what on earth

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2013-12-09 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
No, no he's offering $30 plus he'll also be offering you feedback at every stage.

You'd be crazy not to to take him up on his generous job offer.

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2013-12-09 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
For $30, the best you're going to get from me is a name change of some slash I wrote when I was 12.
