Honestly, I think there's a significant degree to which goofy-looking, obnoxious talking animal sidekicks are overstated as a feature suited to children's tastes. I only have my own experience of childhood as a frame of reference, but the more exaggeratedly comic-relief and overbearing those characters were, the less I liked them, even when I was younger. Moreover, I think there are ways of making a movie enjoyable for kids that will not actively put off the movie's periphery demographics.

Yeah, I do agree with that.

I guess it just bothered me a bit here because it's such a long-standing tradition with Disney, it just seems ridiculous that people were reacting like they were shocked about it.
