oh my god, that's obviously not what I meant.

I'm talking about the jerky adults that act entitled to a disney movie that is for them instead of for the next generation of children.

Of course I don't think adults should have to like children's movies. I think adults who do like children's movies have to accept they are not the target demographic anymore, so everything isn't going to be perfectly sculpted to suit their tastes.

Honestly, I think there's a significant degree to which goofy-looking, obnoxious talking animal sidekicks are overstated as a feature suited to children's tastes. I only have my own experience of childhood as a frame of reference, but the more exaggeratedly comic-relief and overbearing those characters were, the less I liked them, even when I was younger. Moreover, I think there are ways of making a movie enjoyable for kids that will not actively put off the movie's periphery demographics.

OP

Yeah, I do agree with that.

I guess it just bothered me a bit here because it's such a long-standing tradition with Disney, it just seems ridiculous that people were reacting like they were shocked about it.

Nobody's arguing that kids' movies shouldn't have cute characters. They're arguing that this character in particular is dumb.

Do you think we should just toss shit at our kids? Here, you're a kid, you'll like anything! I as an adult have no opinion on this. Kids should have movies that are dumb! It's what I've decided kids like!
