I have several female family members who solemnly warn me about not gong out "late" (i.e., after 9 p.m.) at night, and have seriously said of rape victims "well, what was she doing out so late?"

And I still bristle when I recall getting into an argument about technology and education with some guy from church, and being told (by my otherwise awesome mom) "Why couldn't you smile when you were disagreeing with him, so he'd know you didn't mean it? No boy is going to like you if you take yourself so seriously?"
