Magneto may be the head of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, but he's always been closer to Malcolm X than Osama bin Laden. I'm not sure it's necessarily fair to compare him to cruel or sadistic villains. (We'll leave out that time he started straight-up slaughtering people, because apparently that was actually Xorn or something.)

Oh, come now. It's all fun and games until you're compelled by a evil mind control/brain tumor/SHIELD/alien entity/plot device to butcher hundreds of people, then, you're in the Marvel Universe.

"How did I die this time?"

"After infiltrating Xavier's school as Xorn, you shot Emma, hopped yourself up on drugs, destroyed New York, and then we beat you up and Wolverine lopped off your head. Oh, and you killed Jean."

"She's dead again?"

"No, no, don't change the subject here. Why aren't you dead?"

"Oh, that. Well, you see, that wasn't me."

"Oh really now?"

"It was actually Xorn's twin brother, possessed by the sentient mold Sublime, pretending to be me, pretending to be Xorn."

"That defies all logic."

"Oh, like none of you have ever died before."

(From the animation 'Death Becomes Them,' by Matt Gardner. Always loved it so much.)

Wait, they're still dragging out that redemption subplot?

Shit or get off the pot. Redemption is this show is becoming worse than romance in just about every other genre.

I don't really see the show as still working a "redemption" angle on Regina as it is acknowledging that people have layers, some of which are dark, and 100 percent evil is a rare thing.

So, is she an ogre, or an onion?

Onion's a safe bet.

What about parfaits? Parfaits are great.

But also delicious, and even the good parts of Regina aren't that sweet.

This thread has just made my week - thank you! (I was hospitalized last week and am on bed rest this week, and I needed a laugh. :) )

Secret 9 - Once Upon a Time and Uncanny X-Men

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-11 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is three images: The first one is a scan from the comic book "Uncanny X-Men", showing Magneto mournfully holding a dying Kitty Pryde (whom he just killed?) and regretting it because she was a mutant? He is saying "I swore then that I would not rest 'til I had created a world where my kind -- mutants -- could live free and safe and unafraid, where such as you, little one could be happy. Instead, I have slain you". The second image shows Regina and Henry from the TV show "Once Upon a Time"? holding each other and looking sad, and the third one is a photograph of the comic-book writer and artist John Byrne, an older man with graying red hair, mustache and beard and some missing teeth. He is wearing eyeglasses and smiling.]

Whenever someone complains about how villains like Regina shouldn't be redeemed because they were too evil, it reminds me of John Byrne and how butthurt he got when Chris Claremont redeemed Magneto.

She wasn't actually dying, he just knocked her out and thought he had killed her.

God forbid a character be more complicated than "bad or good"

LOL! Best typo ever.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-11 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)

I think Magneto's actually been redeemed several times. It's confusing and I have no idea where he stands in the comics right now.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-11 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
He's on Cyclops's team, though he's going to be leaving because he's getting his own ongoing series.

He's on Cyclops team? I vote irredeemably evil then. Guilty on the count of aiding the most boring character to ever feature in comics. A crime worthy of execution, which means no appearances for three whole issues (well two and one appearance as a Skrull infiltrator).

(Anonymous) 2013-12-11 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Bless me, but this comment thread is awesome. I'm a Rogue/Magneto shipper, and I'm still holding out hope that he'll leave and go find her. After all...

*SPOILERS*

Kitty quit Wolverine's team after Battle for the Atom, and dumped Colossus because she needed a "man who would live for [her], not die for [her]".

(Anonymous) 2013-12-11 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
It's comics, though, characters get retconned to be heroes or villains all the time.
