Well I got some awesome clothes, a cute hat, two books (642 Things To Write About and The Plot Whisperer) money, and candy and trail mix, and my sister wrote a note to me and that was really sweet.

Since I'm a huge spender I blew it all and one day (oops xD) and got 4 more writing books (I am a huge nerd about writing books), some art stuff and a cheapish little dry erase board to help me stay on track and get shit done everyday. I feel kinda bad I was only able to get one gift but my mom really loved it so that makes me feel better.

and of course Christmas itself and spending it with my siblings was a gift in itself. ^^

Random question: How did you spend money? The stores aren't open? Or are they in your corner of the world?

[personal profile] jaybie_jarrett 2013-12-27 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
They were all open they day after Christmas. I guess they're not everywhere then. I apologize if my talking about shopping was braggy or insensitive.

Oh, not at all, you don't have to worry about that, you didn't. Heck even if it you had nothing wrong with having and spending money. Anyway I don't think we have ever interacted? So you might not know that I pop in and ask random questions about stuff.

Anyway nothing is open in Norway at all before tomorrow, stores* are not allowed to be open, some people are working in offices (and off course no rest for the emergency services and so on), but that is pretty much it. So that was why I asked, I wont be able to buy candy before tomorrow, and we haven't had the candy I want at home during Christmas. (and now I sound like a kid, damn I am a responsible adult!)

*With gas stations and tiny tiny convenience stores the exception

Oh. OH okay.

and hi o/ Nice talking to ya.

Sometimes I forget about differences between different places and how small the internet makes the world.

and about stores not allowed to be open. Huh that's weird....

I hope you can find some good candy. It's probably on sale too.

Sorry abou the unasked lesson in Norwegian labour laws:

[personal profile] making_excuses 2013-12-27 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Hello!

Yeah that can be easy, I assume everyone on the internet is American until proven otherwise, so I am no better.

They are also closed on Sundays*, up until a couple of years ago Church and State was not separated. We also have 37.5hours work weeks for a fulltime job, anything over that is overtime. Overtime is also quite heavily regulated. Especially on any "red" day. So even the stores that could be open, don't because it would be hella expensive to pay them. Anyone working on Sundays get double hourly pay and Sunday nights is triple the rule also applies to all red days.

I doubt my candy will be on sale as it isn't Christmas themed, but I will be able to buy it so that is good enough for me!

*I think 4 Sundays a year is allowed.

Oooh that's very interesting.

Where I'm from there are a few businesses that aren't open on Sunday , like Chick-Fil-A and Hobby Lobby. But it's not a widespread thing anymore.

Here in Canada we have a thing called Boxing Day, which is the equivalent of Black Friday in the USA. Massive, massive discounts on all merchandise, so that when people come to return the gifts they don't want they wind up spending more than before hahah.

Some people even just wait until Boxing Day to buy all of the stuff they'll get for Christmas, if they feel like braving the crowds.

I don't know if it's a thing anywhere in Europe, but some parts of the USA have also started doing it a bit.

Thinking of it I have heard of it!

I think it is a thing in The UK, probably most of Europe. Norway tends to be our own little island of heavily regulated shop laws (as I explained in the comment above, if you are interested)

We start the huge sales tomorrow!

It's an Australian thing too! Unfortunately I've blown all my money...:(
