Maturity Level?

[personal profile] jaybie_jarrett 2013-12-27 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Kid's shows can be serious, deep and interesting.

Confer: http://daughter-in-the-basement.tumblr.com/post/39118327867/the-fridge-horror-of-dannielle-phantom < fridge implications in a show on fuckin Nickleodeon.

(also look at some of the stuff Avater: The Last Airbender and the first season of Korra had.

Kid's shows don't have to mean mindless immature garbage. Also people can watch both.

I personally watch both. I watch stuff like Criminal Minds ,Cold Case Files, and Law and Order SVU, but I also watch stuff like Danny Phantom , Disney movies, and MLP:FiM.

I don't think there's many adults that exclusively watch kid's shows, many people watch both. Though for me....sometimes the daily drama of life, dark and dramatic stuff and all that gets to be monotonous or just to much. and kids shows have some element of innocence and hope at the end and some shows just remind me of the good parts of being a kid again.

Also, sometimes the characters and story just grab me and pull me in. *Shrug* simple as that, an interesting show is an interesting show.

Oh also..sometimes "adult works" can be aimed at adults but still not really mature.

Watching Big Bang Theory with my parents is just downright uncomfortable for me sometimes and not just because my parents are there (but that doesn't help).

Just because it's for an older audience doesn't make it "more mature"

I think a great many things compare favorably to Big Bang Theory, it's certainly not something I'd hold up as the pinnacle of what a sitcom can do with the format.

there was some surprisingly dark stuff in danny phantom, yeah

(too bad that the guy that kept pushing the show in that mature direction then left at the end of season 2. oh well)

Steve Marmel?

Yeah...I felt like the best episodes were the ones with Steve around. After that in season 3...well a lot of things took a dip in quality. Butch Hartman's fondness of Sam REALLY showed (I like Sam back when she was portrayed as more flawed thanks very much) and some of the characters got derailed.

Vlad for instance suddenly gained an obsession with ruling shit that turned him into ANOTHER take-over-the world villain. *groans*

Oh but D-Stabilized was pretty good...probably the only S3 ep I really loved. The Danny/Valerie tension was GLORIOUS and Danielle's story was brought to a good conclusion.

Avatar had some of the systemic thinking about power and environment that I just come to expect in the SF&F I read. Some of that is Juvenile/YA, most isn't.
