It was. I saw two great moments. One was a person who said that rape jokes are WORSE than rape. Yes. Worse.

The second was someone reblogging something about how terrible rape jokes are and how it CAUSES rape. And theeeeeeennnn a day later reblogging some infographic about how violent video games DEFINITELY do not have any affect on violent behavior.

So a joke has more impact than what is essentially a murder simulator. Huh.

Calling violent video games a murder simulator is really dumb.

Yeah. So is saying a rape joke either A) Means someone is a rapist or B) Causes someone to rape.

I mean, I cannot see how someone can believe that a rape joke causes rape (or contributes to rape culture) BUT playing a video game that involves murdering people does not have an cause someone to become violent (or contribute to a culture of violence).

Disclaimer: I do not believe the above.

I don't mind rape jokes, but I can kind of see how it would happen if someone started actually seeing it as a joke, which is typically what happens when most of your humor revolves around people being hurt. It doesn't mean someone will make a rape joke then go out and rape some girl at knifepoint, but it does make them less sympathetic towards the issue, and probably more likely to fuck someone passed out at a party or use drugs if they think they can get away with it.

Also, I guess there have been studies that showed correlation between the talk and the behavior. It's probably more about rapists and assholes joking about rape than rape jokes making people rape, but it would still give an idea of what kind of person makes them in the first place.

Not if said game has you simulate a murder. Which is... pretty damn common.
