I feel like that works for DC though. If you watch Marvel superhero movies they do have a lot of humor and brighter colors.

D'you know, I never realized that before. I guess DC reaaaally wants to differentiate themselves from Marvel movie-wise.

And they succeeded too well

Too bad one of the things they diverged from was "movies people who like comics and aren't ashamed of it will want to see"

Batman can get away with "Oooh this isn't just a comic any more this is deep." Superman depends it getting fun.

Yeah; Marvel movies are a lot of fun. Thor, for example, is generally a much lighter hearted movie than, say, The Dark Knight.

Agreeing with all others that Marvel is where it's at for bright colours and humour. It sucks that DC has gone the way of darkness (the Burton movies were so campy and fun). I think the first and second Batman movies would have been better if more light and joy had been interjected.

It works for me too.

Seems to only work for Batman. It's pretty much the only DC superhero people will go to theatres for. The Reeves Superman movies were great imo, but I hardly think we'd see anything like that now.

I agree. I put off watching the Marvel movies because I assumed that they would be all "dark and gritty" like the DC ones, and take themselves too seriously. Thankfully when I finally did try Thor and the Avengers I was pleasantly surprised. I'm looking forward to trying the other Marvel movies next.

As I said downthread, Iron Man 3 is practically an action comedy with the amount of humor in it (they pull it off very well and thankfully isn't a full-on action comedy). All the movies have a bit of humor to the, with varying degrees and almost never detracting from the plot and usually even adding to it. (Though a lot of the humor is in facial expressions or just very subtle - I saw IM3 twice in theaters, and the first time during a very funny part involving Rhodey, I was looking in my bag for something so I only heard the funny line, but next time I also saw his face and the scene became 10x funnier - meanwhile, a lot of Steve's snark in Captain America seem to have gone over people's heads if some of his fandom characterization is anything to go by).
