The murdering, kidnapping rapist who fucked over an entire population of people because of one person (who trusted the wrong person as a child) and doesn't regret it is more sympathetic? I don't know how to respond to that.

Except, clearly you did respond -- with the same tired "But Regina's an evil rapist!! How could anyone see anything good or sympathetic or worthwhile in her, because RAPIST!!!!" tale that's all the rage, I might add.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-01 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
And they also mentioned she murdered and kidnapped. Yeah, how dare someone not be willing to overlook murder, kidnapping, and rape, to see how perfectly sympathetic a character is.

Shut the fuck up.

AYRT

You can be a bad person and still be sympathetic. But I'm not really interested in talking more with someone for whom "shut the fuck up" is an appropriate response to people.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-01 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
You literally think people are being unreasonable for not seeing Regina as sympathetic because they can't ~get over~ her being a rapist and called it being all the rage. "Shut the fuck up" doesn't do justice as the response you deserve.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-01 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
NAYRT. Why can't you be more sympathetic to AYRT? After all, kidnapping, rape and murder is significantly less appropriate than saying STFU.

Um, tale? I don't watch this, but isn't it established in the show that she's done things that, in the real world, are legally classified as rape? (And Klutzygirl also mentioned murder, kidnapping, and not showing regret for her actions--the latter in particular tends to sink a character's likability.)

I'm not a fan, so I don't have a dog in this fight. But it always bugs me when an un-anon poster says something that sounds reasonable, and then an anon poster reacts as if they'd said something much simpler and easier to argue with.

Sorry, I didn't mean tale as in fiction. I was going for the figurative of this being the same thing people say over and over and over again without ever acknowledging anything else about Regina. Sort of like a "same story, different day," use. Didn't mean to be confusing.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-01 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Very much so. The scene where she takes the Huntsman's heart? She tells her goons to "take him to her bed chambers". Yeah, I'm sure they were just going to paint each other's nails and talk about cute boys. I don't understand why the Regina stans love to pretend this never happened.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-01 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I don't understand why you keep acting like Regina fans don't know this happened. It's called forgiveness.

If she didn't feel remorse, why was she crying in the "Evil Queen" ep?

She's just saying she wouldn't change anything because it meant having Henry, who she loves.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-01 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
THIS. You can be sad about the means without regretting things when the end is something positive. But not everybody is an ends-justifies-the-means person, I guess.

She emotionally abused Henry and made him think he was crazy when he was actually right. She nearly gave him up after finding out who his biological mother was and then fucked over the other adoptive parents (who were the Darlings trying to get Henry for Pan, but still) upon changing her mind.

She did somewhat redeem herself last episode, though, and I'm willing to give her a chance.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-01 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Clearly.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-01 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
She also had an abusive mother and was corrupted by magic.

And now she's trying to be a better person for her son.

I do hope Regina can be a better person for Henry. She somewhat redeemed herself last episode.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-01 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. I mean, wouldn't it be nice if everybody everywhere had the mental fortitude(?) to come out of harrowing situations with nothing but sweetness and light? But for some people that's just not an option.

That doesn't excuse what they did, but it makes it makes how they turned out a little more understandable and it makes their attempts to change, IMO more worthwhile (and interesting to watch) than somebody who's been good continuing to be good. Actually, this is why I really liked Snow's turn to a bit of darkness, I just wish it were being handled better in the show.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-01 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. It doesn't make her a better person than the Charming's, but it makes her more complex, and it makes her desire to be better something that I root for. Snow on the otherhand ... I don't think her bits of darkness are being handled as well as they could be.

The murdering [kidnapper] who fucked over an entire population of people because of one person (who trusted the wrong person as a child) and doesn't regret it is more sympathetic? I don't know how to respond to that.

There you go.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-01 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
No, I think they were right in their original post when they acknowledged that Regina is a rapist too.

Oh, I think so too. I stopped watching after Regina killed Graham, but AIRT seemed hell-bent on ignoring everything else but 'rapist'.

Are people still caring about all this?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-01 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
It's really gross that all these rape apologists are coming at you for stating the truth.

Basically this.

I mean, I like Rumple and Regina just fine, but more sympathetic than Snow and Charming? Not quite.
