Cartoon Network started airing DBZ when I was in college, and I loved the show. We just recently watched DBZ:Kai with our daughter, and I had forgotten how much the final episode annoyed me. Overall, I really like the show a great deal, but that final episode with Goku abdicating any responsibility he had toward his family and leaving Chi-Chi alone really irked me. I know that one of Goku's endearing traits is his childlike wonder, but he is a father and a husband too. IDK

TBH, it irked the hell out of me too. Probably irked me more than others, because I love Chi-Chi. Goku could be a bad father at times.

I think this is one of the reasons that I never really liked Goku in DBZ. I always prefered Vegeta because he was an asshole but he was open about it. Bulma knew what she will get but Chi Chi hoped for a real father and husband and only got a fighter who sometimes was a father/husband. :/

I love Chi Chi (especially in Dragonball and I still bitter about her treatment in Z and GT) so I often ignore specific episodes in which Goku is a horrible father/husband. If I do this I still can enjoy this pairing.

I actually love Goku, even in DBZ, but he could be a real ass at times. Choosing to stay dead for seven years iirc, because you think it would be better for earth and leaving behind your pregnant wife and and son behind is just bullshit. And leaving your son with the responsibility to protect the earth just rubbed me the wrong way.

I'm bitter about her treatment in DBZ too, but even then I still loved her. I also still enkoy the Goku/Chichi pairing a lot, but I have some issues with it. You want some adorable ChiChi/Goku fanart?

Sure! I would happy to see fanart/fic for them.

Even if I'm angry about some things I still ship them. Their second meeting in Dragonball is still one of my favorite episodes. The complete tournament with them is the best IMO.

I love Chi-Chi, too. I love the way they meet and get together in DB, and she loves him so much, but she's essentially a single parent. It's just hard for me to imagine that after being *dead* and getting to come back to life, that he would rather go train for years with Oob than spend time with his wife and son.

I mean how many times has Goku left her alone and to do the parenting all alone? Way too many imo. I really wish we could have seen more of their family life.

I understand that DB is a shonen manga and that the mangaka hates romance and such stuff (which is the reason that we never saw more) but really? He basically showed guys that they can leave their familys if they have more "important" things to do. :/

I thought it was more along the lines of Toriyama saying that writing romance was not his forte rather than him outright hating it. And I can understand Goku going off to save the world, but choosing to stay dead after the Cell Games and running off with Uub was complete and utter bullshit.
