Regina's a heroine-type who turns evil from bad shit happening to her, so of course she gets a lot of sympathy from fans. It's hard not to feel anything watching younger!Regina never get liked for herself and never really allowed choices about her life, just herded into roles she never wanted to play (Cora's idea of a perfect daughter, Snow's replacement mother, Leopold's pretty ornament, Rumpelstiltskin's curse vessel.)

I wouldn't say that Snow and Charming are unsympathetic, but they're so boring that I just don't care.

Regina is what Snow would be if Snow hadn't caught the breaks. Snow got the fairy godmother to help her, Regina got a fairly mad imp; Snow got the prince, Regina's prince got killed (because of Snow); Snow got a true band of companions to love and support her; Regina got...er?

There is no difference between Snow's virtues and Regina's, just one caught the breaks and the support and the other got shafted all the way. Regina is all the Disney princesses whose talking animal got caught in a snare before it could make contact.

DA

What fairy godmother did Snow get? When the "Blue Fairy" "helped" when her mother was dying, it was Cora in disguise.

Daniel did NOT get killed because of Snow! Daniel was killed because Cora was a literally-heartless psychopath; she could have discovered that information any number of ways. Regina left Daniel's safety up to Snow keeping a secret knowing what a horrible person her mother was. Snow was a naive, yet truly well-meaning CHILD. There's a reason minors are not expected to make life-altering decisions - they have little-to-no grasp of consequences, and, frankly, I don't see an adult expecting Cora to head to full-fledged murder.

Snow earned the love and loyalty of her followers by being a good person. Regina reaped what she sowed. This is the sort of woe-is-me (or woe-is-my-favorite-character) responsibility-shucking that sucks any and all sympathy from a person.
