This tumblr post does a good job explaining it, I think. You do know there are more shades of racism than "I am not racist against black people" and "I am a member of the KKK," right?

That's a super good post, yes.

Far better than how Willis himself has been handling it, though.

...Didn't he also have her rob a store and sleep with her tutor? I don't understand how her being an awful person comes down to her father saying she looked nice with straight hair. It's also pretty racist in itself to say black people just rob stores and skip working hard to sleep their way to an easy A.

The tutor thing is a holdover from the It's Walky! days when the two characters were an actual couple. But it does come off as a bit skeevy here.

Willis's premise is that Sal's misbehavior is all caused by her parents racism. Unfortunately, again, he's told, not shown, this. We've seen that Sal's got a terrible relationship with her parents, but, since it's all in the present, there's no indication that it started because she was more black than Walky, rather than because she's a disappointment on other fronts, such as being academically less gifted, or far more gifted criminally (which is still terrible parenting, especially with Mama Walkterton being so blatant in her favoritism, but he's given no real indication it's racist parenting).

He may still salvage it with a flashback, of course...but as of right now, it's just Word of God that Sal's completely right.

Well, at least it didn't work?
