No, if her leg is still hurting that bad, she needs to go to the doctor. If it was a 40 year old who had that happen (and it still hurt days later), I would tell them to get it checked out.

Sorry if you don't understand that older people are generally more fragile.

Hell, I'm 30 and still feeling the effects of a "minor" knee injury that happened seven months ago and for which I did get medical help and physical therapy. Knees are fragile things.

It actually *isn't* hurting that bad, but because she's fragile and old, we understand that it'll take longer to heal.

You said she can barely stand. It's not a matter of taking longer to heal. Anything she does is going to make it worse, including nothing. This thread is kind of pissing me off. "Oh no, she's fine. She can't walk, but she says she doesn't need a doctor, so we're good." Why the fuck do you think people get worked up about elderly people's health? Because their families turn a blind eye to it, because "it's what she/he wants, so we don't want to interfere."

Where did I say she couldn't stand? And if doing can only make it worse, how come her knee is in fact getting better?

And congratulations, you've just fucking pissed me off. My family does not turn a "blind eye" to each others' needs. My grandmother didn't want an ambulance, we contacted an NP and got the all clear, lost two straight nights of sleep with her (she had to get up and pee all the time, and yes we took many steps to provide for that), and have made sure that someone is always at home with her until she's absolutely better, which meant taking off work. Fuck you and your insulting assumptions.

In the original post. You know. Where it says "she can barely stand, much less get in a car".

Fuck you right the hell back.

Fair enough. I should have said that she could barely stand at the time that the big decision had to be made. We're kind of past the point of needing an ambulance; I'm pretty sure we can get her to a doctor now if we (and most importantly *she*) felt it necessary.

And fuck off and out.
