Yup, I'm British and had never heard of him - when my Americans hadn't heard of Quisling, they offered this chap and I read his bio and it seems he dabbled with treason and returned to the British army?

Seems fair enough.

I was gonna ask if maybe the British knew him, just cause the American Revolution I'd figure is somewhat relevant to shared history, but I guess that answers that.

Shared history, yes, but in context of US history it's arguably the most important event ever, whereas in context of British history it's one of the most important events of the 18th century. Er, I hope that doesn't sound dismissive! We, um, tend to spend more time in history lessons on our various waves of invasions and civil wars than on that period of history when we were busily invading other countries. Getting invaded is rather less embarrassing...

A lovely American asked what we covered about the War of Independence in history in the UK - nothing. Nothing. We've list a lot of countries.

Naw I get it. When I said knew him, like "oh yeah, he was in a footnoe" or something. I woudln't imagine it to be covered nearly as much so it makes sense the tiny details get no mention at all.

That...depends very much on who you ask. From the American perspective him "returning to the British Army" *was* the act of treason, seeing as before that he was fighting on the American side since the start of the war.

But, as a Brit, I'd say everyone fighting on the American Army side was a tad treasonous, and he did the right thing!

...Can I interest either of you gentlemen in the War of 1812?
