(Anonymous) 2014-01-04 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)I also tend to see it where a fic is rebelling against a popular fandom ship by getting them together, then bringing in a second character to show how obviously better for the person they are. Again, gender of the participants depends entirely on the ships and canons in question.
So ... for that trope at least, I think it's based more on whether or not there's a canon and/or popular fanon ship for the ship-of-the-fic to deal with, rather than any gender-specific reasons?
