Eh, the best argument I've heard for R&J being about love is it being about a *first* love - not True Love. Which makes sense to me combined with them being teenagers since...hey. A lot of people have those extreme feelings about their first love ["I'll die without them!" or "This love was meant to last forever!"].

Eh, the best argument I've heard for R&J being about love is it being about a *first* love - not True Love. Which makes sense to me combined with them being teenagers since...hey. A lot of people have those extreme feelings about their first love ["I'll die without them!" or "This love was meant to last forever!"].

That's why it's so tragic when they die before experiencing anything beyond that.

It doesn't even fit the bill for that, since Romeo was speaking like that about Rosaline in the beginning of the play. I guess if people wanted to interpret their stupidity to the first love feeling, that can make sense in their headcanon. But I've mainly heard in other fandoms who reference R&J about how perfect and flawless their love is and how it reminds them of their OTP. So it's not even a same interpretation like the one you're describing.

Eh, first love usually refers to a person's first relationship, and seeing as Rosaline rejected Romeo it's a plausible way to view it.

And, to be fair, most [including your's] views of R&J are just headcanon/interpretation.

A lot of the text, including how other people who knew what Romeo and Juliet were doing, supports that they rushed into it and that it in no way was true love. It was just two hormone driven teenagers rushing into things because of infatuation.
