(Anonymous) 2014-01-09 12:28 am (UTC)(link)(Also, the Pacific Rim characters are meant to be brothers. So, you know. Casting.)

(Anonymous) 2014-01-09 12:31 am (UTC)(link)No, I really don't have face blindness, at least not IRL. I'm actually pretty good with remembering faces. Sometimes in movies and TV it happens, with people who have that perfect-Hollywood-face-symmetry thing going on.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-09 12:33 am (UTC)(link)I do think it's a failure in American casting that there is a serious lack of distinctive features - everyone has to look so perfect, and a very narrow definition of perfect at that. IRL (for me, at least), it's the little imperfections that make people appear fascinating and/or attractive.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-09 12:39 am (UTC)(link)Yes, I was confused about who OP was referring to, and OP clarified upthread.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-09 12:38 am (UTC)(link)Actually, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth do have fairly similar features.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-09 02:13 am (UTC)(link)...I'm still not seeing it. Even though you picked images where they have similar facial hair and everything, the shape of their eyes is different, and they have very different noses. Hemsworth's face is broader, while Evans's is longer. I honestly don't think they look any more similar than any other two reasonably conventionally-attractive men of the same race.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-09 02:46 am (UTC)(link)Yeah, I'm not saying they're carbon copies or anything, but I can see how, if I wasn't really familiar with them, I could get them mixed up.
I probably relate to this because I have a similar issue with Jason Statham and Daniel Craig. It's not like I absolutely can't tell them apart, just that I get them mixed up sometimes.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-09 02:17 am (UTC)(link)I'm so confused by this. I don't think they look similar at all...? Chuck looks kinda like Ben Browder with a stronger jaw, and Raleigh is a dead ringer for Heath Ledger. But I don't see how they look like each other...

That happens a lot to me in films where two characters look similar, which reminds me of a film where one of the guys was bad cop but acted good and the other one was good cop, but acted like a bad cop and I spent the whole film trying to figure out which one of them was on the screen at any time, because they looked exactly the same!
don't get me started on Inception, I still have no idea which one is which, and I did see it twice, just to try to figure it out. Only thing I know is that one of them looks hella fine in a suit.no subject
(Anonymous) 2014-01-09 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)Thinking Javier Bardem and Jeffrey Dean Morgan look alike? I get that. But the guys in Inception look so different, I'm kind of baffled.

I also don't recognize my favorite characters out of character if I don't spend some time to get to know the "real" them and even then I might not recognize them in another film or television show. It is partly because I am not really that visual* person and that I don't especially pay attention to the screen the first and/or second time I watch something.
So yes, to me they look similar...
*Which probably goes back to the fact that I lack the ability to close my eyes and picture something.

It's so incredibly frustrating.
...Same with Thor and Captain America, now that I've looked them up. Without distinctive clothing or attitude they're all the same. :/
(Which was very annoying in the one PR scene where it kept switching between which guy was fighting and i'd be trying to work out if Gypsy Danger had just punched someone or maybe it was Striker Eureka and now who's in trouble...WAIT THERE'S MAKO OK IT'S GYPSY DANGER thank god for Mako.)
