The existence of this secret pleases me.

Not that I'm happy that you were sad about Eleven regenerating. It's just that for months leading up to the episode, my friends and I were saying how people in fandom who looked down on those who were sad about Ten leaving would be just as upset when a Doctor they like more (Eleven) regenerated. Glad to see it's true, I guess.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I don't recall ever seeing anyone looking down on people who were sad. People complaining about the melodrama of Ten's regeneration, sure. But most Who fans understand that many/most fans have their favorite Doctor who they are sad to see go.

There was a LOT of "suck it up. The show is about ~change~." going around back in the day.

....don't tell me they did the whole crybaby "I don' wanna goooooo" garbage with Eleven too? Feh.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
They didn't, thank god. Eleven's departure was downright classy compared to Ten's.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, he was much more dignified. That's what actually made it sad to me, lol...if he went kicking and screaming like Ten I woulda been all GOOD RIDDANCE XD

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
No, they didn't. I thought Eleven's farewell was actually really classy. He acknowledged that it was time, that change was a part of life, but said that he would always "remember when the Doctor was me." It was touching, and not overly drawn-out.

The rest of the episode was pretty 'meh' for me, but his regeneration was surprisingly well written and executed.

Me too, it was a lovely regeneration. Ten's was so egotistical and whiny though, most anything would have been better in comparison.

No, thankfully. It was actually pretty good, some sadness from the parts where it seemed like he was going to die for real, but once the regeneration started it was awesome. And he had the best final line of any of the Doctors, IMHO.

Re: Spoilers

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
What was the final line?

lol Well he was 11 for a thousand years, so you know.

TIME TO MOVE ON.

BRING IN THE NEW MODEL.

ETA: Just to be clear, I'm actually not mocking people who are sad about Eleven leaving. I'm making fun of the fact that due to Moffat's time skips, the Doctor was Eleven for longer than ALL OF HIS OTHER REGENERATIONS COMBINED.

I was happy about that, actually. It always made me sad to think about how 'young' he was dying in each life, always being cut short, so actually living out a whole regeneration was super satisfying to me.

plus I'm p.m. certain that he was lying about his age constantly, especially in the new series. Like, there was only 50ish years between Seven and Nine? Really? Pull the other one dude

Oh god that bugged me so much just because it stunk of Moffat doing more of his "My version of Doctor who is the MOST IMPORTANT" crap.

Eleven while he was still looking young already had a lot of extra years randomly tacked on, then he starts visibly aging in the special so he's god knows how old. I wouldn't mind it but it just felt like there was little point to it. Like the Doctor aging really didn't add much to that messy narrative unless you're really interested in seeing how Matt looks in different wigs.

I kind of thought it was probably a reaction against the way both Nine and Ten had such enormously short lives, due to that RTD-era insistance on treating every year the show ran for as equivalent to exactly one year of life for him. I agree it got a bit silly towards the end, though...

No, in fact Moffat laid into 10s goodbye at least twice, once in the 50th and once in the finale. He can't write for shit at the moment but I was proud of him for that. :D

Elevens regeneration was sad. It really felt like Matt was saying goodbye to the Doctor and fans as well. I think that's why I liked his goodbye so much.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I actually thought I'd find Eleven's finale a lot sadder then I did. The last 5 minutes were definitely sad but the rest of the episode bored me so much that I just wanted it to be over. As lovely as I find Matt I am also looking forward to a new doctor.

In new series my favorite regeneration is Nine's. But the Doctor I was saddest about is definitely Ten.

I loved Eleven, Im totally excited for Twelve though....never seen the point in being angry at the new doctor etc. life depends on change and renewal.

I liked Ten but his last line was just...blah. I get not wanting to change but he's not dying, not in a literal sense. I think it kind of put a damper on things.

Nines was one of my favourites though.

I saw press photos from the first day of shooting and, well, I called it:

Nine: Urban Leather Doctor
Ten: Pinstripe and Sneakers Doctor
Eleven: "Fezes are Cool" Doctor
Twelve: A Dapper Doctor

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Those photos of Twelve though still have him in Eleven's clothes post-regeneration, after he took off the tie.

We still don't know what his outfit's gonna look like.

I could not possibly have loved Ten's regeneration and what led up to it more (I fucking love the idea that regeneration feels like dying and will defend it to the last drop), so haters to the left. But while I didn't really like most of Time of the Doctor and thought I was just going to be completely emotionally unaffected by the whole thing, Eleven's regeneration was very sweet in its own way and I did tear up at it.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 10:49 am (UTC)(link)
100% this was me. Though honestly - what annoyed me most about a certain portion of those people that cried over Ten leaving, is that they seemed to be completely unreceptive to even the thought of a new doctor. We'll have to see what Eleven's fangirls do about Twelve.

11s wasn't cheesy though...

Then again neither was 10s it was just insufferable.
