Well said.

Maybe OP has serious issues with their family and this was 'the last straw', but it does seem like a pretty large overreaction.

Yeah, a whole bunch of things were going on with them, this was just the last straw. I feel like at one point, I was like those characters, but since shortly after submitting this, I've actually started getting more independent, so that's nice.

I'm sorry to hear that. I know it's tough when your family isn't playing nice. Hopefully you guys will eventually make up and maybe they'll start treating you better, but right now I get that you don't want negative people in your life.

Realizing you have to change is the first step, too.

You mean you began to become independent... in the last several days?

Ok.

Well, more than I was. I actually talked to a cashier yesterday, instead of just nodding at them. I usually have a lot of difficulty talking to strangers.

This is a minor social situation, and if you consider it a major independence (particularly combined with the content of the secret) it may indicate that you have an autism spectrum disorder. I have no fandom bias in this conversation (I don't even know who the first guy is) but what I've seen here makes me think you should talk to someone and find out for certain. They might be able to offer you some treatment that could make your life a lot more comfortable than it is currently.

DA

Not to say there's anything wrong with OP having a disorder, but the way you phrased this really sounds like an extrovert who can't understand having to scramble for something to say to a cashier unless they need treatment, instead of just being a neurotypical awkward introvert. What's minor to a social butterfly is a constant irritation for those who have no skill at small talk.

lmao whatever you might think based on that comment, I am not an extrovert. But I still consider making conversation with a cashier to be a minor social encounter. It requires nothing but for you to be polite.

DA. I think you have no idea what social anxiety actually is. Try to look outside yourself one of these days.

Re: OP

'Not extrovert' is not the same as having social anxiety. And Buster Bluth might show some social anxiety characteristics but Sheldon Cooper sure doesn't. My comment was based on the information given in the secret and the comment the OP made above.

Either way, talking to a cashier is not a big step toward independence, even if it is a personal struggle for this person. So I stand by my comment that maybe they should see a doctor to help them find out why this might be such a problem for them, because there's probably support available.

I have social anxiety. I'm also an extrovert. The two aren't mutually exclusive. Just because I'm comfortable around people once I get to know them, and enjoy being around people does not mean I don't have to psych myself into simple things like picking up a phone or knocking on a door.

Sounds way more like anxiety than autism spectrum disorder (having had quite a lot of experience with both).

I hope so, cause if it's actually an accurate depiction, it seems kinda petty for breaking off contact.
