Merlin/Lancelot for Merlin BBC. Granted, it's like fourth in my favorite ships list from the show, but you would think it'd be a bit more popular than it seems to be. I think Merlin and Arthur's very canon love for each other overwhelms the fandom.

For way more popular than I think they would be? Sam/Gabriel from Supernatural. It's the worst kind of pair the spares.

I still think Adam/Michael is even worse.

I like to forget about that pairing even being a thing because it's just ugh.

What? What? No. No. Why?

Merlin/Lancelot for Merlin BBC

God, yes. They didn't have as much shipping material as Arthur/Merlin but man, some of their scenes were incredibly homoerotic/adorable

Tbh, pretty much every interaction Merlin has that isn't heart-wrenchingly sad is adorable. Both Lancelot and Gwaine's relationship with him were both adorable and "whoa, wait, is he in love with Merlin or am I just hearing and seeing things?"

Let us not forget that Merlin, like, brought the real Lancelot back to life for a second just so he could say "Thank you." (If I'm remembing it correctly.) Wth was that about? It wasn't for Gwen's sake.

I swear I read that Sam/Gabriel started as a joke and picked up speed as Sam "needed an angel." It really is a pair the spares pairing.

I read that as Merlin/Gwaine at first, but I agree anyways. If you compare it to M/A, yeah, every ship looks barely popular. Still, it really bummed me that Lancelot's actor just didn't have the time to be in the show enough. That he was the only knight guy aware of Merlin's magic made me think that he really craved and needed that support, hence he had another reason to talk to the "real" "undead" Lancelot.

And with Gwaine, holy shit when he was introduced they were like best mischief bros! And then later seasons downplayed that, and my hope that he would become Merlin's other confidant (and conspire with Lancelot for bff caring times) totally got jossed and

why did i keep watching this homoerotic fun show

I would've said Merlin/Gwaine, but that pairing is actually fairly popular. I've found a decent amount of good fic for it.

Merlin really did need the support of a friend in regards to his magic. Gaius was a father figure and more concerned with hiding Merlin than supporting him in that way (for good reason most of the time, but still). I mean, he was so desperate and lonely he was ready to run away with Freya and abandon his "destiny." That's sad as hell.

Now I want a fix-it fic rewrite fic where Lancelot gets to stay in Camelot, steming from season 1, OR a fix-it rewrite where Lancelot doesn't die (and gets to stay in Camelot). Just think of how different things could've been if Merlin had the support of someone who knew all of him?

Also, I think Gwaine knew about Merlin's magic and just didn't say anything. Gwaine was too shrewd not know, and, I think, too aware of how important it is to keep one's secrets to confront him on it.

Merlin/Lancelot should have been so much more popular. Lancelot's first episode was basically Merlin crushing on his handsome knight in peasant clothing, and Lancelot knew about the magic. I can't help but think that if the show hadn't pushed Lancelot/Gwen so much in all his other episodes Merlin/Lancelot could have been much more popular.

And, you know, if he hadn't died. :/

When has death ever stopped fans? :D

Ha, I watched that episode the other day and it was totally Merlin crushing on Lancelot and Arthur also crushing on Lancelot and everyone crushing on Lancelot because mmm.

Sam/Gabriel was so confusing in it's popularity, and the fact that it was in almost every D/C fic for a while was annoying.

RE: Sam/Gabriel...

WHAT THE FUCK?

I just finished watching up to Season 5, and just. What. Why would you ship that? Gabriel was the one who mindscrewed both of them, and forced Sam to watch his brother die over and over and over again.

I just don't understand fandom sometimes.

this is the same fandom that writes fluffy lucifer/sam fic on a somewhat regular basis so I've just completely given up trying to understand it
