It's a lie that formal education must be done, and done NOW, or woe woe woe betide you. It's a slog, doesn't suit everyone, and makes you poor and tired. And depending on the country, you can always do some study later in a better position if you think you want or need it. But it's definitely not necessary for many well-lived life paths.

On the other hand, in many countries is a must if you want to have any chance of a decent job and letting it wait can be even worse (someone over 30 without job experience in whatever they finally studied doesn't have any chance to get a job).
I'm suffering for it right now and even though it wasn't my choice, but some serious issues, and I really wish I had been able continue my formal education when I was at the right age.

I think it's not the case for OP and I'm glad they took the right decision for them, but it's better not to proclaim something "a lie" and better to just point that in some case it may not be true and it's better to analyze the situation in a case by case basis.
