So now that you've left school, what are you going to do with yourself? Genuinely curious.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Kind of a weird question.

Eh, the song is Elsa saying, 'Fuck this shit' and then doing her own thing. I'm curious about what the OP's gonna do now. Not that weird.

Why are you talking about Elsa in what appears to be a Sleepy Hollow secret?

I'm curious. What's yours?

Psst. Dude. You're reading too much tone that isn't there.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-12 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
lmfao a little defensive, are we?

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
No offense taken. :) I think I need some time to figure that out. I have a job, so I'm not totally aimless. One of the reasons I left is because of my mother's health, and taking care of things that she can't. I was comparing myself with those people who take classes full time, have kids, work two jobs, save orphans from hospital fires, and can accomplish all that at once. I can't do all that and my grades reflected it, so I quit.

Sound like valid reasons. School will always be there whenever/if you decide to go back.

Congratulations!

Sometimes the smartest and healthiest plan is indeed dropping out of classes and taking a different course in life. People always seem to think it's a negative and give a lot of bad feedback, but honestly it can be the best thing ever. Good for you for realizing what's best for you. I hope things work out.

this +100

Leaving school was one of the best things I ever did for my own health and happiness.

Same thing happened to me. It was a riiiiiiisky decision, faced a lot of hardship, ignorance and judgement at first, but ultimately turned out as the best choice for me.

Seconded. I may end up doing this myself if my current plan doesn't pan out.

+1

I did end up going back to school years later but leaving was the best choice for me at the time... But people will give you a lot of flack over it.

I was depressed for the longest time and felt like an absolute failure about dropping out, until I settled into the idea that going to uni could mean I might actually die trying to get a degree I didn't really want. After I made my peace with that, I've been exploring my interests, working on myself, and trying to get jobs that I would not hate. This for sure has been the healthiest thing I've ever done for myself.

Good luck, Op.

I liked that speech :')

Coming from a stubborn disposition, I find it hard to stop doing something once I've been doing it for a long time, even if I know I am failing. I don't exactly take many risks in the first place, but I think conceding something to yourself is important too. Good luck getting to the right route, OP!

If you feel that you've made the right decision, then good on you, OP. I'm having some tiny doubts about my current school situation as well, but not enough to feel like dropping out would be the best decision for me right now.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-12 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
It's a lie that formal education must be done, and done NOW, or woe woe woe betide you. It's a slog, doesn't suit everyone, and makes you poor and tired. And depending on the country, you can always do some study later in a better position if you think you want or need it. But it's definitely not necessary for many well-lived life paths.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-12 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
On the other hand, in many countries is a must if you want to have any chance of a decent job and letting it wait can be even worse (someone over 30 without job experience in whatever they finally studied doesn't have any chance to get a job).
I'm suffering for it right now and even though it wasn't my choice, but some serious issues, and I really wish I had been able continue my formal education when I was at the right age.

I think it's not the case for OP and I'm glad they took the right decision for them, but it's better not to proclaim something "a lie" and better to just point that in some case it may not be true and it's better to analyze the situation in a case by case basis.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-12 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
This. In my country, higher education IS A MUST.

Clancy Brown is in Sleepy Hollow? Why didn't anyone tell me?! I know what I need to watch next :)

Don't get your hopes up, he doesn't stick around for long.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-12 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Man, I don't know how to feel about Clancy Brown anymore. I've spent so long lusting after him but now he's older and has that aura of Nice Dadliness...I'm so confused.
